Hello, We all know Germany is the best. Then I think Italy will come second in place considering the quality of German Shepherd Dogs bred and also entered in shows. I would like to ask how are other countries like Switzerland,Denmark,Austria, France, Sweden, Belgium, etc. which are close to Germany or have access to German dogs for breeding are placed in terms of quality. Because there are lot of offers for sale of dogs who are well top ranked in above mentioned countries. Is it really worth to buy a dog who is placed say in top ten in other countries excluding Germany and Italy. Where can I check the results of sieger shows in other countries?

Hi Sumo. These are the results of the Hauptzuchtschau 2005 in Olten. http://www.pastore-tedesco.it/RADUNI/Raduni_2005/siegerschau_svizzera05.htm As you may notice, most of the dogs up front are indeed German or Italian. I myself am a breeder in Switzerland, and I can only speak for myself. We have unfortuneately very few top dogs at stud in Switzerland (top dog means for me, a good looker and a good worker). If breeders here want to be able to keep up with the German anotomy standards, we have no other choice than to go to germany to have our girls bred to name dogs with good backgrounds. The quality of GSD in Switzerland is absolutely worthy of the German standards. Our Körung is, in my eyes, harder, as the dog must walk heel before having to bite. We also have a charakter-test, that can only be absolved once, if failed, the dog can not be used to breed with. All in all, Swiss dogs have to really prove themself to be able to pass the Swiss Körung. Maybe thats the reason that the top looking dogs from Switzerland go to Germany or Italy where the rules aren't so tight! Isabelle

Thanks Isabelle. I think the link you have given is wrong because it is not showing. Please give correct if you can. Do you have your site? That was a good information about the Korung in Swiss. Are your dogs registered on this site. May be I can check if you give the names. Thank You

Hi Sumo. I tried the link and it worked. The site in German didn't work so I put the Italian version on. My site is www.gsollhof.ch Have a look in. I'm just a small breeder (and I want to stay that way!) at the beginning of my career. Regards, Isablle
