According to Erie police Lt. Lee Mathis, Chester perceived a threat to his safety and shot the dog to avoid personal injury. Mathis said the officer reported the dog was baring her teeth and had her hair standing up. He told 7NEWS officers have no obligation to get bit by a dog before protecting themselves.

Same as I mentioned in a similar thread, the officer will NOT have to answer for this.

That is horrible.  She calls the police because she is recieving threatening calls, and he shoots her dog, while the dog is turning to look at her.  WT?
As for the lab, it had mauled a 9 year old boy, so that is justified IMHO, but this shooting is just crazy.

The Officer over reacted what he thought was a threat.  This office is poorly trained how to handle incidents where he thinks he is being threatned.  Next will be a person being shot or killed becasue this office over reacts.
