vonHoss GSD

I have a male GSD that is 16.5 weeks old, Czech and E German lines.  There were 11 puppies in the litter.  All but the one I kept, their ears are standing straight up.  His ears did stand.  One stood for about a week when he was 10 weeks old and the other stood for a day then layed over the top of his head for about three weeks.  Now both are down for about 3 weeks.  They are not flat down, but stick out to the sides.  He is very big boned, weighs 35 plus lbs.  He is not fat.  I feed him Royal Canine German Shepherd Puppy, (30% /14.5%) 2 cups in the morning and 2 cups at night.  I have read about gluing the ears using Tear Mender Glue.  Any suggestions would help.
Thanks.

He is very young, dont worry right now!! During teething they go up and down. If they were up once they usually always come up again. After teething they should be fine.

Totally normal.   I'd say when he's done teething at about 6 to 6 and 1/2 months they should be up.

Seems to me people who worry about their dog's ears not standing seem to have the most trouble with them.  I have a theory you might want to try; the less you worry about it the quicker they will come up.  :)

On a serious note, I don't necessarily subscribe to the idea that there is anything you can do about it anyway.  They will either come up or they won't.  Taping and all that other garbage is a myth in my opinion.

Yeah what everyone else said......try not to worry, they should go up once he's done teething. On a side note isn't 4 cups of food a day a LOT for one pup? My 13 month old dog only eats 3 cups of Taste of the Wild a day.

My adult females get 3 cups total a day.  I was giving my puppy less and he seemed not satisified so I began giving him more.  He is not fat at all.  His stools are small and he only goes twice a day so I figure most of the food is being absorbed.  This morning one ear was back up again.  My son has one of my puppies, a beautiful West German bred dog from imported parents.  His ears do not stand.  I know ears do not make the dog, because he is wonderful.... but how much better he would look!!  And my son's dog says to me, you would look better if you lost some weight!

I wouldn't be worrying just yet. The dog is still pretty young but what I do during this period when the ears are not standing is, I massage the ear leather where the crease is at. If you look inside of the ear, you will see where the creases are. Now if the ears are over his head just hanging out, they will come up on their own and I leave them. Ive had pups with heavy ear leather and sometimes they needed help to stay up. I dont want until all the teething is done because by then it may be too late.

I have a friend who raises show boxers do ears for me as there seems to be a talent for taping that I dont have. Im sure others on here can help you on that. Try looking for old articles here to see what you can fine.
