And how many human moms are given oxytocin? Quite a few, & they are certainly still considered to have delivered 'naturally', albeit with induced labor. Been there myself....stuff really does work, hurts just remembering....ouch!blush(Oh, & I was allowed to breed again, LOL!)

Any updates? jackie harris

We had a bitch that normally whelped every 3-4 hours...(it was her normal delivery).
No stress...no contractions until a puppy was "ready" to be born.
Also...had a female go 13+ hours between the last pups. Thought that she was possibly done, left her sleeping calmly with 6 babies....ready to leave for work..*bingo*...she starts pushing...2 more live pups. Again...no stress & ate a meal.
FWIW...xray only showed 6 large puppies!

IMO not having an XRay done to see how many puppies to expect is an easy way to cut expenses in the short run, as long as you don't get into trouble. I always XRay on about day 56, but then my husband is a vet and we own our hospital, so I may have prejudices. Although, for a single lateral with no sedation we only charge around $90, which IMO is small change for the knowledge of knowing how many to expect.

I have had a bitch produce 8 puppies, (which were counted on the XRay)  in about an hour between puppies. She was happpy ate a meal, looked done to me and I got up the next morning to 10 puppies. Hiding those 2, but all were happy and healthy. Hazel von Narnia has just been retired and spayed at 6 1/2 years of age. She is perfect, produced 34 puppies and is now the queen of all she surveys.

Thanks All Involved,

Thanks for reminding me why I never want to breed a dog ever again!
