LOOOOOOOL...
I made a mistake once too (I love Chinese, Thai, Japanese food...so I know how to make it at home..) well one day I discovered fish sauce in Asian supermarket its clear liquid that you add to create dipping sauces, you heat water w/ sugar than cool it and than add fish sauce and use it as caramelized dipping sauce for fresh rolls made out of rice paper....Anyways I read instructions wrong and added fish sauce to boiling water with sugar.....OMG! month later I repainted kitchen and cabinets....and replaced rugs..it was THAT bad..
i do not mind liver smell....because I like liver cooked with onions... ;)

LOL!
Your story reminded me of the one and only time my DH cooked I think, something called steelhead salmon in the house. The fish smell was absolutely eye watering and overpowering, it even traveled to the second floor into the bedrooms and every space possible. I have forbidden him from doing that to me, ever again. I'm sure the dog didn't care except that there were lots of leftovers for him from my plate.

Liver treats - PAH! Ambrosia
You have smelled nothing, believe me, until you have defrosted a frozen day old mouse for a barn owl in the microwave.......and forgot to set it to defrost. I only ever did THAT once, and I am not even particularly squeamish.
The microwave had to be thrown away (the mouse actually disintegrated).
Liver treats....heaven by comparison - could almost eat them myself LOL.
