Excuse me, but this is an GERMAN SHEPPERD DOG FORUM!!!

actually this is General Topic Forum...the German Shepherd is just below it on the left side....so all breeds and all topics are welcome. :)

sjbo...i am not familiar with Bouvier at all....I don't think I even seen one in person...just curious, how are they on shedding? and do you actually trim their fur into the shape they are in now or is this their natural length?

spunio at least learn to spell the breed before you make a false statement. This is not the "German Shepherd forum"   This is the General Topic Forum. Besides, how is it hurting you that someone made a post with a different breed?

sjbo659 just curious, where does that breed originate from? They do grow up fast though. Buck my Husky turned two back in January, and I've had him from birth as well.

Thank you for the nice complement on my girl Ladyfrost. The Bouvier is not a very well know breed. They are around and most herding and protection people know what they are but the average person on the street will usually ask what breed they are or say the same thing you did that they have heard of them but never seen one. Here is a link to my web site that gives the history if your interested. But in short there is much debate on the Bouviers origin. Mastiff, Briad, and Picard and some say some wolf hound. There are two branches to the Bouvier. The Moerman and the Paret. One is like I raise and the other looks more like the GSd. Read this on my web site. http://cassiopeiabouviers.com/short-history GSDguy08 They origionated in the area of Flandres in Belgium and were bred by the monks at the Ter Duinen monastery. They were the first known Bouvier Breeders. Grooming is not as difficult as it looks if you keep up with it like I do. Of course if you let the coat go it matts up really bad and then they look like you see in old photos. For every day look you just run a comb through it once a week to get out the matts and if your showing them then its all hand stripping. I do not shape my dogs when I show them like most show peopel do. I prefer the natural look over the sculpted look. I want the judge to see my dog and how he or she is built. As for shedding its very little and usually right after a full grooming then its more like puff balls that blow accross the floor.

sjbo....Good web site, very informative and you make it crystal clear how you feel about your dogs..I also liked the  "DON’T BUY A BOUVIER!" section...I think GSD breeders would benefit from having something similar on their site regarding GSD's for new buyers.

.in any case..thank you for exposing some of us who are very narrow minded in specific breeds to other dogs, I may never buy a Bouvier, but at least I know that they live among us, its funny how once you get so wrapped up in your own world you don't see pass the bubble wall... when i was reading your site i remembered I used to own rotties and even had a Doberman..seems like a life time ago.... thanks.

Your welcome LadyFrost. I use to raise GSD's but since I changed breeds I do not regret it for a second. But I still love the breed and always watch them at the shows. My wifes best friend is a lady who raises GSD's so were never far from the breed even now. Won;t tell you what happened though when her male and mine got into it last fall. lol Don't want to start another war of breeds. :)

Lady Frost, the reason I have the Don't buy a Bouvier on my site was written by a very well know Bouvier Breeder from days past. Most of the really good Bouvier Breeders have that on thier sites as well. It's there for a reason. Just as not everyone is cut out to own a GSD the same holds true for the Bouvier. I believe the main difference is people tend to think GSD's through breeding is the superior dog to any other breed for families and such. But since people who own and breed Bouviers know what they are capable of, strength, and bite which is harder then the GSD's they tend to be more cautious in who they sell the dogs too. GSD's are easier to train becuase Bouviers tend to be hard headed at times. They are a thinking dog and its not uncommon for an owner to get really frustrated with them. Like on a recall we have a saying. You yell come then go 1 thousand one, one thousand two one thousand three while the Bouvie decides if he wants to come or not. lol Of course there are those who do not care but you will find that the Good Bouvier Breeders just as with the good GSD breeders are just as decerning about who gets their dog's as they are about the proper health checks of their breeding stock.
