Here is a link to a video I just made of Diesel running on a treadmill. He watched as my wife ran and seemed like he wanted to try it out, so I let him. This is after a few sessions learning how to get on and off and finding a right pace to let him run, it was quite easy to teach no problems at all. Sometimes it's just to cold and snowy to get on the bike outside, and he really likes to run!!!

looks like the "maligator" is enjoying himself, but i wonder if the tread surface is safe for a dog's pads...i've had no experience with treadmills, but i recall hearing that a different surface was needed for dogs...i love the idea of conditioning a dog on a mill, and sometimes wonder if a dog with correct conformation and good health could benifit from "well thought out"work such as this...with optimal feed and natural supplements, could you basically build a better dog with "off the charts"endurance? let me know how your "mill-test" is going and the condition of your dog's pads.

My one male likes to get on with me! Of course, we just take a slow, safe walk together!

Enjoyed watching that. Good job!
I haven't tried to teach my dog, it would be good to do but I don't want the claws to tear up my running  belt.
My Boston terrier use to use it , but he is old now and his sight is going.
:) good way to exercise dogs, it is snowy and cold too long here. I can't wait til spring, neither can my dogs! :)

His pads are not affected by the running surface at all, and I do keep his nails short primarily so he doesn't scratch me to bad during training.

I usually run him 3-4 days a week at a good pace just about 6 miles an hour for around 30 minutes; that of course is on the days that we don't do any other type of training.

I have noticed a huge difference in his endurance in the last few weeks, I just got the treadmill about a month ago, but prior to that we ran outside or biked. It is funny but he has put on about 4 pounds of lean muscle in the last few weeks and I have also had to increase his intake by almost 1/3.

Also it seems that it is like the equivalent of crack cocaine to him he actually will go to the treadmill and stand on it waiting for me to start it, and on the days that he doesn't get to run it is a real pain to get him to leave it alone. I guess that is the true meaning of a working dog if they are not working then they are not happy.

On another note he is really great in the house and will lay at my feet and watch TV, keeps me from having to replace my sheep skin slippers that he destroyed!!!

I will keep you updated on his endurance, I am already in the process of increasing the time ever so slightly, he is still young and I don't want to affect any growth he may have left in him,
