I had a 98% wolfdog........ 98% and 2% Malamute....... she was just the best animal I've ever had.  Did not smell "doggie"...had no "doggie breath"...... was smarter than a dog by a LONG shot......  wolves are very, very clever....they do not have to see something done in general, to figure out how something works, like a dog does.   I put mine into a very large wire cage for one occasion... the door wasn't  easy to put into place so I didn't lock it.  She promptly let herself out, by opening the door in reverse.  Now, that's too smart... LOL... so, then, I locked the door.  Well..it took her a few hours to figure out...that, if she ripped off the little wire flange at the front of the cage, where the tray is inserted... she could then rock back and forth until she got the tray moved out enough to where her feet could touch the floor...and then, she just pushed the tray out with her nose and laid down sideways to roll the cage over and got out the now open bottom of the cage.  That....was Impressive...to say the least.  LOL......... she was never ever in a cage again....... I took her across the country with me as I was a travel nurse.  She and the cat were great friends.  I could leave them in my SUV and never worry about the cat being hurt.  She was the most gentle animal I ever saw...... and, she loved to "dress up"...  I had a black convertible... I'd put the roof down, slide her pink plastic shade over her eyes...and she'd ride around with it on, smiling at eveyone.... We'd stop at redlights and people would wave at her..........she'd give them the Queen Elizabeth nod with her head and smile.....  Sometimes...she'd stand and give them a Parade wave with her big bushy tail...... and then, sit down again... I had a blast, "singing" with her as we rode down the highway.... we'd do several verses of "howls"......and she loved it !....  Since she has now passed.... I have missed her so much, I am not sure I could ever be happy with a regular dog ever again.   But, a warning..... if wolfdogs have not been socialized very early and intensely, they are shy...and that makes it difficult to take them anywhere..... they can dig a four foot hole deep and wide in about the same number of minutes...to cool off in...  and, they will chew everything to see what it tastes like when they are puppies........... you truly do have to keep an eye on them...they do have the ability to jump like a deer... over anything...and instantly, from a standing leap.  They should always, always be on a lease if out in public and never allow anyone to just walk up and pet them.   You could have a big lawsuit on your hands if the animal were to bite anyone.  Their mouth has about 1500 pounds of pressure ability.  much worse than a pit bull... more like a shark.   So, while I love wolfdogs.......... the combination and character of the animal is not what you can evaluate in a moment.......... you should see the animal several times...and in different situations if possible.   It is a lifetime committment......You will be their pack family...even the cat....... My cat taught me how to be the Alpha........ He wasn't afraid of her at all..... if he was.....he sure hid it well........  LOL...  Have a wonderful time... but be cautious...they may seem domesticated, but they are still wild at heart......... even a dog should be considered the same way with the public.........and strangers.    Comancheshadow

Glad I have a dog. I don't have to worry about socialization. Do you get sued worse per bite pressure? I don't understand why anyone would want one. Every hybrid I've seen was skiddish as hell and would run if it wasn't on a leash.

? And the point is....?

Can I get the name of the dog used. If 2% did all that for a wolf, I'd really like to breed my bitch to him.

When living in Alaska, I knew a few sled team owners who owned some hybrids, but all of them were pretty nervy/skiddish.

not trying to be smart or rude, but where did you get the statistic that a wolf has 1500 psi bite pressure. Sounds pretty unlikely. And p.s. an pit bull terrier does not have the overall highest bite strengh in the domesticated world

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crocodile
The pressure of the crocodile's bite is more than 5,000 pounds per square inch (30,000 kPa),[8] compared to just 335 pounds per square inch (2,300 kPa) for a rottweiler, 400 pounds per square inch (2,800 kPa) for a large great white shark, 800 pounds per square inch (6,000 kPa) to 1,000 pounds per square inch (7,000 kPa) for a hyena, or 2,000 pounds per square inch (10,000 kPa) for a large alligator.

If I had a "wolf" or a "wolf hybrid" (not sure how you can determine 98% wolf, 2% Malamute) I would build it a safe and LARGE enclosure outdoors.  Why would I want to "keep" a wild animal?

Turk - thanks for the Link to the video.   I couldn't just watch one....it led to another and another and another.   Very interesting.

Hmm.  Why would anyone want a wolf hybrid?

Why not ?
