It's been locked by Oli due to all the nasty remarks that were made on dogs by people on the board.

by amir on 14 June 2006 - 16:06

Is it lock for all dogs?

by Louise M. Penery on 14 June 2006 - 17:06

As a "work-around" to this problem, just start a new message thread using the dog's name as the topic. Easy enough--one doesn't have to be "nasty" when adding replies. I doubt that Oli himself "locked" it. I have a hunch that a glitch may have been created by the 3 self-acclaimed, control-freak "moderators". IMO, they could remove the dang glitch if they chose to do so. Furthermore, I doubt that those recent messages attributed to Oli were actually submitted by him. However, I do have faith that, in due time, Oli will restore the "User Comments" option. Let's just be happy that this valuable site is up with greater consistency than it was during the past year. Also, be grateful that we can now create new dog galleries and articles.

Louise, I was one of those moderators, and at no point did I fit that description. Needless to say I don't appreciate your statement. The email we got from Oli is that he locked it until further notice after it was pointed out to him the "comments" that were being added. People were using the dogs comments sections for their own personal message boards to bash everyone and everything left and right. Angela

Thank you Angela for informing us about the ban on the user comments section. If we don't police ourselves, someone else will have to perform the policing job, thus come the moderators. Take a look at some of the other comments floating around on the website. I think the personal bashing part has to stop and the language needs to be cleaned up. I am glad that this resource is here for all of us to share our common passion for the German Shepherd breed. Just think about the days when this site was not around, how much work did we have to do to trace a dog's pedigree. I am gald Oli provided us this venue to share information about our beloved dogs, let's try not to screw it up. Ajay Singh www.ajaysingh.com

I know Oli's been extremely busy lately (who isn't, lol) but I'm sure he'll get to some of those posts that are floating around now as soon as he can. The linebreeding calculator is value enough. I hated doing it on paper, lol. Angela

Angela, Sorry if you found my remarks offensive. Don't kill the "messenger". I was just reporting a widespread reaction of people to the recent moderation. Most of us really are civilized--we do attempt to police ourselves. However, many of my acquaintances (who regularly use this site) began to express mutual concerns that the moderation attempts had been carried to an extreme--to the extent that we felt stifled when we could not mention names of people--or offer useful, well-meaning, and truthful informational references to certain dogs or to websites. Scenario: when someone asks where he may obtain excellent handmade leather leads, I almost automatically refer people to a favorite website. IMO, the hypothetical deletion of such a reference was an excessive form of moderation that made many of us feel uncomfortable. Like, OMG, Ajay dared to include his web address beneath his signature!! The inclusion of Ajay's website was informational in that it tells us more about his history and philosophy. To heck with the fact that that Ajay may have a stud or an occasional litter!! Louise

Technically though, those are the rules that we all agreed to upon joining. In the beginning yes, until we had gotten clarification from Oli on what his intent was with certain TOS rules. Anyways, back to bickering, lol.

Again, don't kill the messenger. As moderators, WE were simply doing what Oli requested we do. Sorry it wasn't to your liking. It wasn't to mine either, but that's life, and this is HIS website, so he can do what he wants, and has rules in place. If you didn't like it, nobody was forcing anyone to use it. Nobody but Oli is moderating now, to my knowledge, and you can see where things have gone.... As far as having the ability to fix the glitch? The "glitch" you refer to was purposely put in place by Oli, who writes the programs and has access to all of it. We did not and do not have access to the entire website, or the intricacies of how it works. I guess if he removes the Message Board, Ads, and Comment Section, nobody will be able to complain about how they don't like how it's moderated. Then there will be nothing to complain about. ;) Like I said before, appreciate what you do have rather than complaining about what you don't. (That's not personally directed at ANYONE, just a generalization) I personally think Oli's done an awesome job keeping this website functioning and it's getting better and better. :)
