Is it safe to give monthly ivermectin injections to gsd to prevent from heartworms & other parasites in place of the monthly heartgard plus chewables?

by Anu on 13 June 2006 - 11:06

Ivermectin is fine for GSD's and other breeds except for rough collies as they're alergic to it and thus die!

Also, for dogs it's given orally not injected.

What dosing do you use? I have an 85 gsd and use .01 cc's

by vomveiderheiss on 13 June 2006 - 14:06

We use 1/2 of 1 cc for a dog over 75 lbs, per vet instructions, orally.

I have been using IVOMEC for quite a few years...if you'd like the Rate of Administration let me know I will send it to you...I was shooting it straight into the dog's mouth...but my vet said that I could put it into the dog's food...as long as the dog eats all of their food...I also put water into my dry food and have never had any problems...I live in Florida...and have lots of mosquitoes...I have also used it for Mange...and for this you give a shot (sub)...If I can help someone please don't hesitate to contact me... ~Bob~

I use the ivermectin paste for Blitz. Since I only have one dog, buying a bottle of the injectable is not cost effective for me. It will expire long before I can use it. Some of my friends also use the paste (sold as a horse dewormer).
