Yet another Quote (I think I better stop looking at their website..):

"We do not stud out our males - nor at this time, do we use 'outside males' as we prefer to use males from our own kennel that we are very familiar with the genetic health of- some being total outcrosses or from our own breedings. Also this way we do not have to worry about infections such as brucellosis, etc."

"Geman shepherds are supposed to be medium sized, short coated, WORKING DOGS!"

The AKC doesn't think so.

The GSD is in the herding group. There is a working group and the GSD, as the name suggests, is not in it.

Why are you people breeding inferior animals? The goal of any good breeder is to improve the breed not to destroy it. Big boned, oversized and the rest of the buzz words people use to sell their puppies.etc., may fool some, but they don't fool the serious breeder. And comments that a person on this blog made saying they don't  give a hoot about the breed standard only enforces the reason we lag so far behind the European breeders.

I have purchased a dog from Mrs. Ayers. She is a standard coat and medium size. I would say she is VERY active, on the go, playful, protective of her yard and family, and has a high prey drive. She is beautiful, everyone is always complimenting us on her beauty, personality, and just her overall look. The entire neighborhood loves her. The thing our neighbors comment on the most is that they love how she only barks when necessary. They love how she isn't like the other dogs in the neighborhood, barking at anything and everything.

We bought her at 2.5yrs old and have had her for about 7 months now. I was really worried about how she would turn out for because she was never exposed to children and we have a 5yr old and a toddler. It took some careful watching and socializing but she eventually came around. Her and my son are best buddies and she follows him everywhere. She loves my toddler and all the neighborhood kids. I personally do not like the Long Coasts,  I have no complaints with the dog I purchased. We plan to breed her to one of her males when she comes into heat next, only for the purpose of us getting a male pup to keep.

I say if you like the dog and you feel they will be a good match for you and your family then buy it. Her dogs are very large, long haired (but soft and silky), the females aren't as big. But I did notice that when I went to look at my standard that I bought from her, she was definitely more active (all over the place) than the others. It was like she was more interested in what the other dogs were doing and not what we were doing. The others (the long haired) were following my 5yr old and I everywhere. One actually even kept trying to nip my sons hands and ankles as we were walking. Definitely get a pup and train them yourself, especially if you have kids.

I have done both buying from a breeder and adopting from the pound, it's hit or miss if you're not familiar with what you're getting. I bought my first GSD a white one from a hobby breeder. The father was a police dog and the mother was a white GSD. She was so much work, I did professional training (people who specialize in GSD), the whole works. She was definitely not what we were looking for. We gave her to my parents that had land and room for her to run, turned out to be the best thing for them and her.

Then I went to the pound to get a cat, and decided to check out the doggie section. I turned a corner and saw this pitiful underweight white GSD. I had to have her. $25 later I was taking her home. I fattened her up, treated her wounds, bathed her and she has been the BEST dog ever. She is older, over 7yrs maybe older. She is so loyal, good with the kids, I love her.

Sorry for the long story but basically its up to you. You could buy a $1200 dog and it turn out to be the worse dog for you ever, or adopt one and be the best dog ever or visa versa. Do what you feel is right for you.

I'm really struggling with a decision here. should I send my money to a breeder that has titled, surveyed, health certified stock. or should I get one of these over size, out of spec GSD, whose purpose in breeding is to be over size and out of spec.

from reading the add, it seems these dogs are suitable for any purpose.

here's hoping a couple more new members will sign up soon to talk about how great these dogs are. that should convince me.

state of confusion,

Rik

I find it really, really sad that people breed dogs like this when so, so, so many good dogs purebred and mix alike need homes at so many shelters across the country. Do I have a working Shepherd, I sure do, but am I a hypocrite for it? Nope, not in the least, I wanted a strong willed, high drive, good defense, protector and companion to keep my family safe while I am at work and keep my kids company and then to do the sport that I love to do with the dog. 90% of people should get a shelter dog and the OP is one of those.

The reason breeds have standards is because we as humans have different needs, and our many dog breeds have been created to fulfill those needs. Hunting dogs should be purchased purebred for those of us that hunt and need that service, Shepherds for herding, protection, police, detection work. If you are looking for a pal to keep you company just get a pound puppy he needs you. So sad, and unfortunately people cannot see that the people breeding off standard to breed a dog nothing like a German Shepherd is doing for money and greed while so many dogs get the juice.
