I've spoken with 3 different vets, and have gotten 3 different answers. One vet said you need only wait 1 week after cycle ends, the others said wait 3 weeks or 4 weeks after the end of the cycle. She had finished her cycle 4 weeks before I picked her up from the breeder, and she started up again the next day. The vet says this is not unusual.

my vet and I recommend one month after the heat is ended, at least - up until one month before the next heat, no closer. molly

The recommendation by Eichenluft is fine. Logic dictates that the middle of the time between cycles is ideal-usually about two (2) to three (3) months after the most recent cycle. If in doubt, a hormone level test can be done to determine whether it is okay to proceed with the hysterectomy. Bob-O

I had a female spayed about 2 weeks after her heat and she did fine. This bitch had 2 litters prior and was 5 years old.

Her heat cycles are kind of screwy. She finished one cycle and 4 weeks later started again. This Monday will be the 21st day--hopefully the end of it. She is 20 months, and has never been bred. I picked her up from the breeder 3 weeks ago, and she went into heat the next day. I guess I'll set up the apt for 3-4 weeks from now. thanks for the advice.

Im a veterinary nurse in england and all the vets where i work recommend spaying a bitch between 2-4 months after the season. So mid way between seasons as at this point her hormone levels are low and there is less of a blood supply then there would be if close to or close after a season. hope this helps.
