I would also be worried about the testicles being up there and staying up there;  your vet should remove them if they are undescended as I was told that they can cause cancer if not internally removed.  Really sorry but YES this is a easily detectible problem.  Did you buy the dog for breeding purposes or as a pet??

The sire is Oruger the Boom vom Kraftwerk and the mother is Amy vom Belzle.

I am having the dog neutered in the near future.  I did originally buy him as a pet but it would be nice to have the option to show or breed him.  He certainly has the pedegree to be able to do that.  He is 10 months old and 95 lbs. and looks just like his father.

I'm really not looking for sympathy, just to get the word out about Kraftwerk and warn any potential customers what to expect.   I do like my dog and hopefully will have many years of happiness with him as a companion.  He was purchased to replace my previous dog (a Shepherd mix) who died from brain cancer.  He was the best dog I ever had and I was looking for another dog similar to him.  My first inclination was to get another shelter dog but I decided to get a pure breed GSD.  I am not unhappy with my choice and I'm don't regret getting this dog, I am just angry about the treatment from the breeder.  My vet told me that he has seen this many times from many breeders.

Unless he is very fat, he's already over the standard for size so would not show well and shouldn't be used for breeding anyway so enjoy him as a good companion.

I have seen first hand a dog that came from the kennel being spoken of. It came to us to be appraised for PPD training, all I can say is do your research before spending your money, always try and see the dog in person. While I do not possess the skills to create a great web site, I know of 10 year olds that can.

Research, research research…..

Tashal, your dog came from the same litter as the member in my club who lost his pup. Like I asked before....please get his kidneys tested.

As far as how much he weighs, these pups are big. I can pretty much say this pup isn't fat. My club member had a full brother from the same litter and he was just big and muscular.

I would never buy a dog from him. Having said that, the sheer number of dogs he breeds would dictate that he would breed some crappy dogs....as well as some great ones. I have met a few who were great. I can't stand the seller, but he doesn't make the dogs bad, nor does it make all his dogs have kidney problems. Let's not try to terrify the OP.

Now, onto the OP's problem. I was just asking a vet w/an emphasis on naturopathic treatments about neutering a cryptorchid dog. She gave me about a dozen reason she doesn't believe they are any more likely to become cancerous than testicles outside the body. She is a breeder as well. FWIW, I would not neuter that dog, at least not until he's absolutely fully mature.

FYI...not trying to terrify the OP. On the other hand, his dog is from the same litter as the pup who died a month ago. I have also received PM's from other members who had the same thing happen. I personally would rather have someone tell me so I can test for my own peace of mind instead of not knowing and going through trying to figure out why my pup died.

Wasn't it a Kraftwerk dog that needed a kidney transplant sometime last year, and a plea for info on littermates or other closely related dogs was posted here?  As I recall, a donor dog was found and the affected dog had the transplant, but in the end the poor dog didn't make it after all.

Sounds like there's something going on that's affecting the kidneys of pups coming from there....could be genetic, could be something else entirely...  I know of an entire litter of Siberians that all ended up with kidney failure before they were a year of age, and it was eventually tied to improper dosing of the dam with liquid ivermectin as a heartworm preventative.

Actually, I didn't even read that. I  missed it. I just said that because I knew w/the kennel name associated w/the post, I was ready for everyone to jump on that and tell all sorts of horror stories. I was thinking of the dog a while back w/kidney problems, actually, not the one you're apparently talking about.
