Jackie.....there are some blizzard-like conditions in northern Missouri, close to Iowa, but here in the southeast, we rarely get much snow. Just enough to provide incompetent drivers an opportunity to create havoc on the roads. We do get ice fairly regularly. Had an ice storm last week; there were 52 cars in wrecks or off the road along a 30 mile stretch. People were sleeping in vehicles because wreckers could not get to them. Rumor has it that MODOT put an ineffective chemical down for ice. I don't know...did not know there were different chemicals. Renee

Renee,

It's the same here in SW Missouri. Execpt MODOT and the city of Springfield has decided they would forego salting and only one pass by the plow truck as it appears salt cost as much as blacktop here and they would prefer to do the blacktop.

Considering 2 inches shuts this town down it will be fun to see how long this will last.

Here in the Piedmont area of  North Carolina it started about noon, Christmas Day. We woke up to about 6 inches this morning. Had to postpone my family gathering.

It is a real pain, keeping the horses taken care of in this. the dogs on the other hand love it.

My horses love snow. I win more races in heavy snow when the workers can't keep the track cleared, than any other time. Snow, Snow, Snow, Snow !!!!!!

I am glad that everyone know how to handle blizzards, I do but here in Michigan I did not get much this weekend in the area. It was cold with the north wind blowing today. I tried out my new cross country ski. I did not fall down :)   I have neighbors that dog sled into town for groceries, so did not get out much this weekend. Enjoy the snow storm, stay warm, eat lots :)

Always,
Cee

I live in northern MA right on the NH border.  We are get hit pretty hard!  Winds are high, snow it going sideways!   On the Cape they're having snow thunderstorms!   Lightning and thunder with tons of snow!

by beetree on 27 December 2010 - 15:12

Morning all-- from CT, the snow is gone but it sure is windy! Drifts are up to 4 ft, and then the snow is bare in other spots. Very windy at the moment! We'll wait for the gusts to die down a bit before digging out, that wind chill is murder!

Had some trouble with the cable signal going in and out last night, but we never lost power. I am grateful for that.

JRANSOM, my DH said he saw lightning last night too!
