What do you think about a combination out of a male from Tsjechian-Slowakian bloodline and a Western female bloodline? We went to see the dog and we also asked a lot of quesions to the owner about the dog. We also did a search on the internet for his grandparents etc. We also found his brother and sister and their decents. They looked very promissing. (also hips, caracter...) We did already bred with our female and we know what to expect from her. What are your experiences with this?

If you are you are talking of a Chechien - Slovakian dog, mostly of DDR origin and lines, then crossing with a dog from successful BSZS bloodline, you basically have a working / show line cross. Even if there are some working dogs in the show line pedigree and some show line dogs in the working pedigree. You have an out cross. There are those who out cross within the working lines, and those who out cross within the show lines respectively and do very well. Some cross working with show and do well. With line breeding (distance inbreeding) of dogs with related ancestors, you know which way the wind is blowing and generally produce the norm for whatever the particular family is know for. With an out cross you have a new mix. Out cross dogs do not usually produce as well as themselves if bred to unrelated out crossed dogs and generally are crossed back to one of the line bred families used in their breeding, then you again are shooting for the norm, for that particular family again, or bred to another line bred dog of an unrelated family to either family used in the first out cross. Then it is felt the line bred dog is the producer of the quality and the out crossed dog is the strength and vigor in the resulting pups. The rule of thumb, line breeding stabilizes a family line, out crossing produces athletes. We as gene pool custodians make the best possible bleedings and go with it, good or bad. So, back to your breeding, if the parents are good quality dogs and it is a planned breeding, you have as much a chance as anyone else of producing great dogs. If it is just a haphazard breeding with no rhyme, reason or direction. It may work to, just you might not have the same enthusiasm for working with and developing the puppies into competition dogs. It seems often that the best dogs come from the puppies, regardless of breeding that are nurtured and messed with the most. The more positive and encouraging the stimulus from the start, and more time invested in your puppies, young adults then full grown dogs, the better they are for it. Brian
