Crying most of the time is NOT normal in newborn pups...also they NEED mother's milk now. I am no expert but will share what others helped me with. Sometimes pups will cry/not nurse if they are too cold (cannot digest food)...pup environment needs to be 90 to 95 degrees and room temp. 75 to 80 degrees no drafts as newborns cannot regulate their body temp. until wk 3. Also, too much heat is bad. Check for hydration...pull skin up on pup and if it snaps back down quickly pup is hydrated. If it stay up or slowly comes down pup needs fluids immed. (Vet can admin under skin if this is the case) When pups are too cold they pile up tightly and will cry, when temp. / correct/healthy they are together but are not searching for warmth, are quiet, and have slight twitches/movement. Too hot and they spread over the box. Was mother seen by vet after birth (Oxy Shot)? Did you count all afterbirths? Are you sure milk is fully down and adequate(If pup pulls hard on teat and then crys in frustration milk is not comming down correctly)...how long ago whelped? If just born, are you sure they nursed to begin with? Some have to have a bit of milk expressed and then pup to teat to latch on (they have olfactory sense/smelling). If pup is cramping and crying (legs pulling in) it may be dam's milk/infection (bloatied pups/loose stool..all pups will eventually show signs w/crying if milk infection/are teats/mammary glands hot to touch?).If they are already born a bit, is mother cleaning rear (they cannot regulate themselves for 3 weeks)? Are cords OK? Did you check for defects. Either case, call vet or breeder friend as newborns are delicate. If it is Dams milk you can supplement...vet can give you french tube if pups wont take nurser bottle. If you tube feed, make sure milk replacer is warmed and that pup is warm first (you can check tongue as good indicator and/or take pups temp (DO NOT insert rectal therm. in all the way...If anything use a pediatric one as they are smaller. If your vet wants to see pup, make sure everything warmed first. Good luck to you. When things settle please let me know how you make out. If you'd like, send me your e-mail and I'll send you me phone # in case you need somebody w/the holiday weekend. Many Blessings.

Puppies need to be warm enough to eat.. what are their body temperatures? Can be taken with a rectal thermometer .... normal for an adult is 101.5 F, pups can be in the 99 - 100 range but anything lower is too cold .. warm slowly with a heating box, never expose pups directly to any heat source.. they also dehydrate easily Is their space warm enough?? I keep my box at 75F, most books say 90ish is better .. too hot for my moms If you are really concerned, you need to call your vet and maybe have them looked at.... Good luck
