Just wondering everyones opinions on breeding a hypothyroid dog? It seems to me a dog with this condition should be spayed or neutered, but I see lots of responses to questions about breeding females with irregular heats, small litters, etc answered "before you have her spayed, have her thyroid checked"

As I said in my origional post, I would not breed a dog with this condition. I have seen responses to posts that make me think that some do breed dogs with thyroid issues.

The problem with hypothyroidism is that it often doesn't show up until middle age, between 4 and 8 years old. So if you test before that you may get a false clear reading. Quite a few dogs are titled and bred before this age.
