While at the veterinarians earlier this week, we were talking about flea control. I had always used Frontline Plus but for some reason the dogs, and cats, still exhibited signs of fleas. They mentioned a new product call Comfortis (spinosad). It's a tablet you give once a month in the dogs food. Within a couple hours it seemed to be working. Today all the dogs are getting baths and all their bedding is getting washed. This stuff works! I am hoping they develop a topical version for cats......
Has anybody else tried it?

No, unfortunately it doesn't take care of ticks. Just fleas.
The only thing you have to be careful with ( besides it's warnings on the label against using it on breeding dogs) is that it can not be administered immediately before or after ivermectin containing heartworm preventative. Serious adverse reactions have been reported with the use of these 2 products together.
I tried it and liked it 2 years ago. We lived in FL and the fleas were horrible. The comfortis succeeded where conventional flea prevention had failed. This year ( in NC) we did not have to use a flea preventative at all.

It is not labled for tick but alot of our clients says they don't have a tick issue when they use it. And alway give it on/with a full wet meal, they can throw up if fed with a treat and not a meal. Also found out the other day do not give to dogs that have seizures.

We had just as many ticks with the Comfortis as without. Just our observations.

That is what we use and love it! Advantage and Frontline just didn't seem to get the job done anymore so our vet recommended Comfortis and that is all we use now. It is the best product for fleas out there as far as I'm concerned.

melissa, is there a specified time before giving ivermectin. don't have the spec sheet.
it has worked very well for me in a heavily flea infested part of the country.
