Looks like the camera just doesnt show shadows good. Looks the same on his tail and the inside of his hind leg and on his his neck. But seems to be a very nice dog.

The photo appears doctored. Case in point--the underside of the animal, including the tail and underline, have unusually dark markings as does the head. There is no evidence that a tree or any other object may be casting shade over the animals body. Given the dogs position to the sun those areas should appear much lighter.
I have never seen a saddle shine like the one this male has--taken together it makes one wonder.

another opinion, the OP asked about the head and mask. It is evident ( as pointed out previously) that the sun is directly behind the dog, at a low angle. The shadow does not lie, regardless of what may have been done to "enhance" the color or sheen of the dog.
There is no way that the ears do not project their own shadow, from this angle of the sun. The lightened photo shows that they do so, very clearly. This is evidenced by the greater area of "brown" (in the cheek area) in the lightened photo over the original.
My personal opinion, present your own dogs in picture to be picked apart. A link is O.K. because that is what the owner presents. It is very poor form to take someone else's picture and present to to the sharks.
And honestly, if you do not have the knowledge to recognize what is only presented in a picture, why do you wish to call attention to it.

lightened
and if you lighten the coloured picture slightly you get this
I see nothing wrong with this Dog, only a dark Photo that has not been exposed properly
Look OK to me

I agree with you Lennard.....The sun being directly behind the dogs will cast shadows from the tail forward.... That is what makes the dog's forehead shadowed by the ears, look darker....JMO
