alboe2009...once you cook bone it hardens and breaks/splinters....

raw bones are actually softer than you think...and dogs digest them w/o any issues...i used to worry about turkey legs but after seeing my dog chew them up like nothing its more reassuring..besides you don't even hear raw bones crunch like cooked ones :)

wow you guys put a lot of work in meal preparation=

i just through a couple chicken backs in with supplements- salmon oil, kelp powder, vertex, and yeast.
maybe a whole egg once a week.Sometimes  vary meal size according to dogs appearance and work routines.

total cost for me is about 18-20$ a dog a month for my guys and takes about 20 seconds to throw it  together at dinner time and my dogs thrive on it.

Yoshy,
All you feed is chiken backs and supplements?  What do you add for meat?

I had been feeding kibble in the morning and chicken leg quarters at nite. But my female totally went off her kibble and wouldnt eat. She has high energy level but I didnt like her not eating a full meal so I switched to 100% raw. I feed the chicken leg quarters in the morning and at nite I feed the following and please critize if needed will only help.

beef hearts
beef kidney
salmon
beef cheecks
pork hocks
beef necks
I also started slowing introducing my dogs to liver.
I feed my 13 month old GSD all the above just about daily. With the exception of the beef necks and pork hocks. I feed her 16 ounces of the above and alternate as things are not available. The salmon I try to give her about an ounce or so a day and hope that is enough omega-3's.

Jim,

They are the meet haha. Here is a picture. They are well balanced meet, bone, fat content. I get 40lbs for 12$ from a local butcher shop. Each back weighs anywhere between 3/4lb to 1 1/4 lb. Sometimes they will throw thighs and necks in but mostly its just backs. I feed 3 dogs on 120lbs for  about 6 weeks. but your boy eats more than mine though - im guessing because he burns a lot more with his hours of working on duty.

Gemini, wow I wish I have access to the variety of meat you have listed.

Mine have raw sardines with a sardine from the can for added flavour and a spoon of brown rice in the morning.  They have mince beef, (sometimes pork), chick thighs, wings, liver, pureed veg in the evening.  I also give them yogurt at night.  Unfortunately living in a suburbs near a city, I source my raw stuff from my local supermarket.  I reckon I spend close to £125 for both dogs every month excluding joint suplliments.

I envy you Yoshy, your dog food look sumptuous yet sooo... cheap.

Here is generally what I have for my dogs:

Morning meal:

Evening meal:

Bon appetit :)

All those things I get from the local grocery store. The only issue I am having is with the Thanksgiving holiday comming up they didnt have any more hearts were replaced with tripe and different things to make menudo. I spend less but not much. For me this is the only way my GSD will eat. My beagle with eat tennis shoes. She is actually putting up a fuss cause she is spoiled. But after missing a few meals she jumped right on board.

I NEVER KNEW! Thiought about it a few times in my life.............but never knew. Thanks everyone., I might flip. Have to look for a butcher or really check out that market. See, now I miss Germany and the villages where the meat wagon would drive down your street.

yeah in Europe it's a lot easier  to get your fresh stuff, in Italy we had a butcher deliver meat fresh every other morning, here in US with so many regulations, and limited meat choices most butchers have beef, chicken and tons of pork which i prefer not to feed my dogs or myself...i have a hard time finding things like duck, lamb and goat meat..thanks to Fresh Market i get my ducks there but since they are organic its $12.00 a duck and for a dog its 1 meal....
anyways...after thanksgiving i usually buy 5-6 huge turkeys (at fraction of a price) and that lasts me almost 6 months .
