Hi everyone,

This is hip x-rays on a 7 year old female GSD,

what do you think?

The x-ray didn't fit the scanner very well, top ones crammed in it so it not to straight!..

I think they look very nice for a 7 year old.  But I am no expert.

Thank you Vickie, as I am wondering if I should send them into ofa again for an updated reading....

They said mild at the age of 2 years old, and I was told by everyone>>once they label them bad, there's no changing their minds.....

I do think I will send them again.....can't hurt.....

The hips are really good for this age.Mild at 2 years is surprising. The hips should get bad at this age then.

I would, just to see what they say....I thought those looked nice for a 7 year old.  I sent in a 5 year old bitches xrays and I can tell you they weren't as nice  as these and she got Good!

Mirasmom, you are right- once OFA says they're not good, they will not change their minds. It must make them feel as if their authority is being undermined if they admit they were wrong or something. I sent in a 7yr old male's hips who they labeled mild at age 2, unilateral, and I just emailed them. I blocked most of the AKC number off of the film and just asked for an opinion. Do you know that they went so far as to find his old films based on just the little part of the reg. number that was showing and refer to them??? I couldn't believe it. I didn't ask for a re-reading of his 2yr xrays. I asked them to look at and evaluate the ones in front of them. They did have to admit that they were not as expected based on their earlier diagnosis, but they would stick to the earlier one nonetheless. ARGH!!!

Ok, enough ranting. The one leg isn't positioned well, but those are damn fine hips for a 7 yr old. I would send them in, if you can't get better positioning. Hell, send them to the SV.

Not only are they good for 7 years old, I would take these and be very happy as I feel they are quite good.  Nice substance also.  Good luck  Nanci

Jen,
Was it Caleb's hips that your tried to get reevaluated?

by B.Andersen on 05 October 2010 - 22:10

Send them to the SV do not waste your time. Those are good hips.

OFA doesn't have a problem changing ratings. I have seen a mild upgraded to a good. However, you need to put the previous application number on the form so that they don't think you are trying to hide something. Those hips look good to me and I would be very much surprised if they didn't upgrade them at least to a fair as there is a slight degree of subluxation in the hip on the left (not sure if it really is the left or not) and very slight sclerosis, but all this is minimal considering the age of the dog, which OFA takes into account. I've never seen them not upgrade a rating that was truly deserving of upgrading. And we do a lot of resubmits as OFA will recommend the vet clinic I work for often times to people who question about resubmissions.
