Ok, I was wondering about the number 6.  I know with the SV rating, the higher the number, the more undesirable it is...  That is what I was confused about....The pedigree I was looking at had that  number in it numerous times. My thought was, surely no one would want a pedigree in it with such a high number in it if it wasn't good...

Thanks for the explanation...Any idea what country it is?

Could be any country. Google the dog in question and see what comes up

a6 means any acceptable for breeding grade in any country which is a FCI-member. This grade can be A (the same as "normal" in SV), B (the same as "fast normal"), or C (the same as "noch zugelassen"). To a sorrow SV registers all those grades as "a6-Ausland" and sometimes it's very difficult to know the real situation

Thanks Aida, I understand what you are saying...I also can understand where that may not be the best method, as it could leave some things to uncertainity....

A6, if you read above, means the dog passed the a stamp but in another FCI recognized country!! Not that it has HD!

a3 does not mean NO GOOD. It is not ideal but still barely passing, and according to SV, still breedable.

Sorry you had the puppy put down but I have know GSD with mild/mod HD to live long and happy WORKING lives. Each dog is different when it comes to pain. Some with HD hurt early on and some feel it as late life authritis.

Dogs are not plastic toys on an assembly line. They are living breathing things. There can be no true guarantee on a living thing, only that the utmost care has been taken to assure good health. No one wishes for a puppy they sell to have HD and it can be as much environmental as genetic.
