Last couple of month, my 8 month old boy is completely on Raw. I was feeding him chicken, fish and occasionally goat meat. He enjoys it very much and he is much better in health than he was on RC. Yesterday I feed him about a 1 pound beef in the morning, he enjoyed his meal however I found him bit lazy (he otherwise is very active pup) throughout the day. In the evening he vomited out some undigested food along with dark gastric juices. I never had such experience before, I feed him chicken in the night and he was fine today morning. Should I discontinue feeding him beef? Did I over feed him? Do any of you have similar experience? I am confused; yours suggestions will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I think is too much to start with beef. Moreover, gsd's are prone to stomach problems as far as I know. Sometimes feeding beef causes upset stomach, but gradually they get used to it. Also depends on the quality of beef, where you are getting it from.I have had such problems with my gsd. I am in India and the weather here is hot. I avoid giving beef in hot weather, but its okay when fed in winters or slightly cool weather conditions. I would consider less quantities of beef. You can mix it up with small quantities with chicken or goat meat.

You can also take him to a vet to check if has some gastro problems.

many sites to look at to get answers.  I have done beef, chicken, lamb or buffalo on different days.  it is good to mix it up the protein source.

I think it was too much beef at one time....do it in smaller amounts two times in a day....they swarf it down and he hate it too quickly and up chucked...the fat in it probably started to disolve and it expanded and made him sick...

smaller amounts of beef are better.
