Does anybody know how and where the Indian Police force and/or the military get their K-9's trained? Are any of the trainers or training facilities located in India or do they use foreign facilities. It appears to me that any viable K-9 force must continually train so it stands to reason that at least some training capablilities should exist at the local level for schutzhund type sport. Does anybody know of any police facility? Ravi Iyer

Hi Ravi, I have heard that the canine training is undertaken in the delhi cantonement area & at the Army base in meerut as well, as per a neighbour of mine who is the son of a retired brigadier (I hope the spelling is right!!). You may check with the local police as well, if they are of any help? Best of luck

Prasac Based on your response as well as data gathered from web searchs of Indian Police force web sites, it seems that there are centers, trainers and facilities in training dogs for tracking, obedience and protection work. While most of this is may currently be geared towards field-work with real life criminal apprehension, it should be possible to adapt this towards shutzhund training. Please correct me if I am wrong but the understanding I have of the status of GSD breeding in India is as follows: The GSD Club of India under the KCI conducts GSD conformation shows. However there is presently no organised or systematic sport of Schutzhund in India Breeders who breed GSD's do so by buying titled and breed suveyed sires and dams from abroad and then selling their puppies to buyers in India. In the absence of an Indian Schutzhund program none of these breeders are able to have any of their breeding progeny registered unless they are willing to send their own dogs to foreign kennels where they can be titled and breed surveyed ( a pretty expensive proposition as well as fraught with potential for abuse and subversion of the titling & korung process) Therefore the current status of GSD breeding in India is that it exists at the level of a brokerage with GSD brokers rather than GSD breeders. Are the above observations accurate or am I wrong in my understanding? Given that the facilities for working canines appear to exist what are the obstacles to entering into a working relationship with police training facilities for the purpose of establishing a system of indegenous titling and breed surveying of Indian bred GSD's. This could be done in accordance with FCI/SV/WUSV rules so as to be recognizable by any organization. ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS?
