I have noticed that when stacking, many people always put their foot right under the back of the hock, of the leg that is under the dog....Is there a reason for this other than the obvious of them not moving it?   I always teach my dogs to stack and stay in that position , on command without having to put my foot there to prevent them from moving it...Its easy to teach, that is why I am asking if there is another reason for the foot being there?

Nope, that is the only reason that I can think of~

Not sure.  I stack my dogs so they look natural and balanced (so each dog stacks differently, because they are different).  I don't like having to support them or restrict them in any way, especially if I'm trying to get a good photo.  I have used my foot with a few puppies that I was asked to stack and they were squirming and fighting and bascially acting like I was torturing them.  I don't have much patience for that and tell the owner to get their dogs used to being handled.

I do it to keep the foot still. It's also nice when a dog will respond to a slight touch of your foot to theirs, one step closer to a self stack.

When I have trained a dog to stackI might start with my foot there but then I like hte dog to learn to set itself up and stay the way it is posed.
Had one of the SAR members take pictures. Dar was being a punk that day and was too amped up for his toy so it wasn't easy keeping him still.
