These people say they are from Great Britain but the scam originated in Nigeria. I was told this by a government official investigating these incidents. There was also a story in our local newspaper giving details on these scammers and the area in Nigeria they are from. You can post their names and e-mail addresses if you wish. They will just make up a new one for their next victim. I have received several of these "requests to buy". It is obvious to me that they were not from GB since they did not speak very good English! They have also contacted me from Mexico and Africa. One man even went so far as to send me his voter registration picture! Unless you can trace their IP address, there is no way to know where they are writing from. Anytime you post anything for sale on the internet you are susceptible to these cons. I have heard sad cases of farmers losing small herds of livestock and upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The scammers have claimed to be acting in their own interests or agents or even vets acting on behalf of someone else. They say they will purchase individual puppies or a whole litter for whatever price you name. Then they will ask to send you a certified cashiers check for a large amount over and above the purcahse price. You are to cash it and send them the change! Once the bank discovers it is a forgery,(and this can take a month or so), guess who pays the price? You will be out exhorbitant amounts of money and who knows where your dog ends up? Probably on someone's dinner plate. BE CAREFUL! As Hodie said, be very sure you know who you are dealing with.

These scams have been around for years. You would think almost everyone was familiar with them but if they didn't get any responses to these ads, they would stop sending them.

they won't stop. they will always be looking for a sucker. the old adage "if you don't try....." applies to crooks as well as decent folk.

i like to think we are looking out for one another and believe it is good to keep each other informed. a reminder everyonce in awhile can't hurt especially for new kids on the block.

Charity, Thank you for the additional information. I too am aware that this is an on-going problem, but I do know people from this and other boards who have been taken because they did not use common sense. So it is helpful Hudson to post stuff like this, even if it helps one person. Unfortunately, it will never stop, even though we don't respond or contact their ISP which I do. As Charity said, they just change names, email addresses etc.
