Can anyone recommed a weed killer that is safe for animals (dogs) and chidren. I want to spray my old kennel area with it. Looking for some thing like Millogranite fertilizer that will not have any adverse effects. Any information would much appreciated

Most weed killers contain cholorphenols and other semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) that are toxic to human/animal health and environment. They are carci nogens which potentially cause cancers. I'm an environmental engineer specializing in contaminant fate and transport. Weed killer SVOCs seldom decade or break down in less than 10,000 years. Human/aninal exposure payways to the chemicals are usually ingestion and inhalation. Although their concentrations may be low while used for residential but due to their chemical characteristics, do not use it unless you really have to.

Doomsayer, Though many weed killers are safe if properly used, I always try to avoid them at any cost in any area the dogs will be routinely in. Email me privately if you like as I have a good alternative that is safe, and cheap. schwarzenberggsd@earthlink.net

I have used Roundup for years without any problems. Go to any knowlegeable feed and seed store and they can make reccomendations that are safe. I had a dog that was lapping up on some Roundup that had been sprayed, not by me, and I jerked the dog up and took it to the vet and she said no need for concern. It had no affect on this one particular dog and I have used it regularly since then.

I use Roundup on my fencelines (kills grass and weeds) and also in 'cracks' and along edges of concrete near the kennel. It dries very quickly and I don't let dogs run in the area until it does. I use another product that kills weeds only (not grass) in my pastures, same thing - don't let dogs run/horses on the field until it is dry/absorbed or whatever. Have not had a problem, but I also do not spray it inside kennels or spray near dogs or horses. molly

look into some organic stuff. I was told vinigar I think it is the 10% will kill it for a year, and it is fine if the dogs or kids get into it. I am going to get some this year and try it, but I was told to make sure you only spray it on what you want dead because it will kill every kind of plant/small tree. don't put out on a windy day. I worked with one of the chemists who developed Round-Up. Supposedly it is safe for use around animals, but, as Molly suggests, keep them off the treated areas until they dry.

Exactly right, it is harmless to animals after it has dried but it not only kills weeds, it kills everything, grass included.
