She is gorgeous, what a beautiful face.

Is there an "A" stamp?  A BH?

I agree with Elkoor and I love Capr's pedigree.

She was purchased as a green dog for police work from Germany about 2 years ago and gifted to me for taking care of a whole kennel full of Military dogs.

I have a question about the a stamp. Being she is already registered with the SV, can I send in the xrays myself or do I need to become a member of Sch USA or WDA to send them in?

The training that Geena does have is very sharp but from what I can tell it was not finished. She has a perfect recall, sit and foose but does not know what platz, bliven or how to finish after the recall. She is smart so I don't think it would take much work to get the BH. It's more a matter of beating the heat and doing the training.

I was told she had some bitework as well, but I will give it a few days before I try anything. She may have been worked more as a K9 when she was imported so there may be some undoing and redoing in that aspect. We'll see.

I am very very happy with her.

Do not send ANY original documents to AKC--they have a nasty habit of never returning them. Write Sabine Leib at akc@schaeferhunde.de and tell her you need a Bescheinigung for your dog (give her the dog's name and registration number). IF the people you got the dog from sent in the paperwork, she will have records, otherwise, you will need to get a NOTARIZED COPY of the original SV registration (all pages front and back, AFTER signing your name in the owner section on the back page) and send it to Sabine for her to complete the Bescheinigung paperwork. It can take some time to get that back. If you send FedEx, it tends to move more quickly. If you ask, Sabine will send you a PDF copy of the Bescheinigung rather than having to wait for the original to come in the snail mail (which will also be sent, but takes a while to arrive).

Send in the DNA to the AKC in the meantime, as you can connect the DNA certification by her name once she is AKC registered. Make SURE you have her name spelled correctly and legibly when you send that in. The DNA goes to a completely different address, so you will not be able to send that together.

Once you have the Bescheinigung, make a copy of that, your SV registration, and send 2 color photos of the dog (one standing side and one standing front) to the AKC along with their form (you can find that here: http://www.akc.org/pdfs/foreign.pdf ) and the $50 payment. I recommend sending that priority mail with tracking, so that you can prove the AKC has received it. If it arrives via expedited service, AKC tends to finish it more quickly, in my experience. Be sure to mention that you have already sent in the DNA under the dog's name.

Once you get the AKC registration, you will need to contact AKC DNA services and they will connect the dog to the DNA certification once completed. AKC should have your registration to you within a few weeks--the DNA being the thing that would hold you up the most, but unless you imported her pregnant, you should be all set. The signatures on the back (top) are the dog ownership section. Lower down on the left are any titling that the dog has completed, with scores on the right along with judge(s) signature(s).

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask here, or send me a PM. Congratulations on your new girl! :)

Thank you Melanie,
That was about the most complete and comprehensive set of instructions I've received. Thank you. I have emailed Sabine this morning and am now waiting for a response.

Elkoorr,
Your boy is gorgeous! You never know what the future may hold. What in his pedigree do you believe compliments Geena, or rather, why? ( I sincerely don't know the pros and cons of these lines just yet)

Thank you all very very much,
Melissa

Just wanted to update on final AKC stuff.

I finally got around to sending in Geena's paperwork to AKC. I did not send in original pink papers but a copy. A crappy color copy at that. Paperwork was sent in last Wednesday and I received them in the mail yesterday, so less then a week.

Just thought I'd let you know that they did accept the copy and the arrival of her papers was really fast.

@Mellisa, a dog that has done bite work can still do well in SAR.  As long as it is confident and not too defensive.I have seen some excellent prey driven dogs do well as air scent and HRD dogs. Dogs that are described as being more so sleeve dogs do well because SAR is just a big game of bite and tug to them. My dog is being SAR trained and she loves to bite a sleeve. her reward during SAR training is a jute tug.

Best of luck to you and your dog.

Melissa I am so slow sometimes. I didn't look at your name when I was reading your post. I went to your girls pedigree and was like WOW another Rocky daughter made it to the US. I even said to my self she looks like Melissa's dog, lol. Do you have a website? Keep me posted on which way you decide to breed her. I'm not in a position to make a puppy or dog purchase right now but I like to keep track of good dogs not far from my own dog's ped.
