I was wondering at what age can one be sure that their dog's color will not fade. I have a male who is almost four years old and he has a nice amount of black and I would like it to stay that way? You can see photos of him at http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/122909.html I also have a female who is only 11 months old and she has an extensive amount of black but I know that is normal for puppies at what age will I know if her black will recede? She can be seen at http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/435490.html Thanks so much for you time and help

I would say at two years old, you got what you got. Stephen

I have a working line bitch who is eight (8) years old. Her rich black and red colours are at least as dark and rich as when she was young. I have noticed that the tops of her feet are fading to a lighter version of tan. And of course she now has a lot of grey on the end of her muzzle. SGBH is correct in stating that at two (2) years you will know the dog's true coat. Bob-O
