Fortunately I have five fenced acres-fall, winter & spring we hike the perimeter trail several times daily unless I'm working that day; summer when the ticks & chiggers abound we limit ourselves to the open corner of the property or I take a selected dog (much to the others' frustration) on a walk down the blacktop.  Recently experiencing gastrointestinal blockages in a couple of my females I no longer just turn them out unsupervised which I rarely did anyway having blacktop roads on two sides.
