[not to mention the utter lack of meat in their foods.]

What I was told (this is what I was told by AvoDerm) is that they use the California avocado. The issues, as far as dogs go, is the the Guatamalan avocado. The dogs are allergic the the Guatamalan avocado stems and bark(skin of the avocado). Dogs do not have any allergy problems with the California avocado, since they use the meat of the fruit. AvoDerm also told me that they cook the avocado a special way too. Again, this is what I was told when I talked to AvoDerm.
I am going to talk to my vet about this and see what she has to say.
The main reason I went to AvoDerm is that I was feeding Eukanuba. With the recall that Eukanuba has and not to mention that they are now owned by P &G. I dont want to feed any food from P&G.
What kibble would you prefer then?

Orijen is a very good kibble! I was concerned about avocado because my Kali just adores it, & will try to steal pieces whenever she can, once eating a whole peeled avocado. She has never had any ill effects, & when I researched it, I found the same info as Jyl posted. Kali is crated now whenever I make anything with avocado, but she can smell it, & will whine softly, & makes me feel so guilty for not sharing! Sometimes I think we go a little overboard on all this stuff, but at the same time, I would be shattered to learn I had caused my dogs harm by giving them something questionable......**sigh**!
