I asked her to give me a couple of days, as personal circumstances precluded me from posting my name publicly until today.
Here you are, Diane:
Today my military career of 8 years came to an end with my Honorable Discharge, which makes it safe to disclose that my name is Aaron Myracle, formerly Alyssa Myracle.
I legally changed my name, its publicly searchable on the Pierce County, WA auditor's website, for those of you who enjoy doing that sort of internet digging.
Those astute PDB members will have noticed that my name went from an obviously female one, to an obviously male one.
I am a transgender man, and given the size of the community, perhaps the first openly transgender Schutzhunder in the country.
[If I am incorrect in this statement, please, PLEASE correct me, for I'd love to speak with another transgender Schutzhunder.]
I've been in the sport for two years; I started training the dog in my picture in the summer of 2008.
Prior to obtaining my current GSD, I'd trained various pet dogs and rescue dogs of my own, and on a volunteer basis.
6 of the 8 years I spent in the military were in the Military Police Corps. Let me state, emphatically, that I was NEVER a Military Working Dog Handler, at any point of my military career. I do not want to be accused of claiming to be a handler.
I worked alongside many MWDs and their handlers, particularly in Iraq, and picked their brains clean of whatever knowledge they had to share. I did, however, decoy for the dogs on occassion.
Any previous subterfuge was strictly to protect my military career, as I think I damned well deserve an honorable discharge after 8 years of faithful, honorable service. My gender identity never impacted the quality of my service, and therefore I refused to let it impact the quality of my discharge. I earned it.

So before anyone writes another insulting comment or reply, maybe you might want to consider giving thanks to the unselfish ones like Mudwick.. Write a thank you message to our awesome men and women of our military, instead of insulting your fellow forum memebers...Don't waste your precious freedom on insults....
THANK YOU MUDWICK, you are right, you do deserve that honorable discharge..
Good luck with that gorgeous sable...
