Anyone else see the story of the puppy found at the bottom of a slot canyon in Arizona? Pup was emaciated & near collapse when found by someone hiking & climbing through the canyons, & when he realized he couldn't carry the pup out, he left some food & water, & a blanket for the pup, & went & got a carrier & more gear, & got the pup out the next day. The pup went to the local animal hospital, & now is up for adoption, with his own facebook page. The news show filmed him as he was recovering, he looks like a GSD. Very dark, pencilling on his toes, tar heels, ears erect except for the tips, which are a little friendly, maybe from the malnutrition. Nice blocky head....wonder how he got to the bottom of a canyon so narrow the guy had to rappell(sp?) down the sides to get to the bottom? Just thought folks would be interested.....jackie harris

I actually just read about this yesterday.  It would have been really nice had the rescuer taken him, but I guess he can't.  What a wonderful man to hike all the way back down that canyon, with special equipment, to save him!  Very sad and uplifting all at the same time.  Hope the little guy has a shot at a decent life.

My speakers aren't working, so I didn't catch the narrative....but that makes me feel there are some good folks out there, to rescue that pup...well, once you found him, how could you not ? But it still bugs me, that's a really nice looking pup...how does such a nice pup get into the bottom of a 350 foot deep slot canyon? Just wandered off? I dunno, sounds suspicious to me. My heart goes out to the pup, & his rescuer. jackie harris

It is a sad thing to see this.Glad the puppy was found and taken care of. I saw many puppies roaming the rez that looked like this pup did. I use to go hiking in areas like that and you would be amazed how agile a dog can be to be able to get down a canyon.  Hard thing is getting out. I hope that the guy keeps the dog.He should call him ratchet.

I know I'd get stuck! When we lived in Las Vegas, we used to explore Southern Utah & Arizona. My kids & I used to do a little slick rock hiking, & we would see CARS wedged in some of those narrow places, so obviously where there's a will, even if it's a damn foolish will, there's a way! I'm just glad the pup's OK, I hope the guy keeps him, too. What rez did you live on? jh

I was on the Navajo rez near Chinle and Many Farms. They aren't the friendlyest to animals. The mutt i have was bit by a rattler and they were going to kill him.So I took him when I left. There were some scary places that Dar would jump from rock to rock and my heart was racing. I was so afraid he would slip and fall.He would go so close to some high edges. There was one time that we finaly got upfrom the bottom of the canyon up a steep ad really flat rock and myfriends hat blew off and fell back down the canyon!!! I told him that he can go get it, I wasn't going all the way down again. He couldn't leave it cause it was his brothers. So for the hell of it I wanted to see if Dar would go get it. Thankfully he went bounding down like it was noting and got the hat and brought it back up. He got some mutton that night. All the puppies would follow me on the hikes.Sometimes I had to drive to the hiking areas just to not have the puppies follow. After the monsoons there were a few watering holes I would take Dar to and all the puppies would follow. Here are a few pics.

In the bottom picture the pup in the middle drinking disapeared after he tried to follow my truck The pup on the right is the one i took.He now looks like a mini rott.lol
