What do you look for in a pup that you want to be a protection dog?

Coldflame has a good list of things, and I will add one (1) more.
The pup must have the "fire in its eyes" that shows it to be the correct candidate. If one has ever seen this then they know exactly of what I speak. I cannot describe it past what I said. It is of course a product of confidence x drive x focus that is not common enough in the best litters.
It's been my pleasure to raise one bitch who has these qualities, and I think I will be quite lucky if I can repeat this once more in my life.
Best Regards,
Bob-O

John, that is a good example and a pleasure to watch. It is nice to see a puppy who clearly has an on/off switch. That is every bit as important as other qualities when it comes to protective qualities. Now; if one could again observe this puppy at a later age to see if he is solely equipment-oriented or has a true civil drive.
Best Regards,
