On the Guidelines for Submission of  Xrays on the GSDCA-WDA site it states the the Xrays to be submitted to the SV must be current within 6 months.

On the USA site for hip/elbow evaluation program they don't reference the age of the Xrays being an issue and a follow up call to them confirmed that they don't have to be taken within 6 months.

Since they both send them to the SV for evaluations can someone tell me what the SV requires as far as what the time frame from when they are taken to when they are submitted?

Also can the Xrays be submitted by the owner of the dog directly to the SV without going thru either the GSDCA-WDA or the USA?

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

I think Steve1 recently submitted xrays of Izzy to the SV, you can send him a pm if he does not respond to this thread.

Six months is correct.

Mr. Ready, you can submit the radiographs directly to the S.V. if you are a member of the S.V. and I take it that you are not a member. It is best to join the G.S.D.C.A.-W.D.A. or the U.S.c.A. and submit them that way, if you want them graded by the S.V..

You seem to be are talking about radiographs that were made quite some time ago. Just one (1) caveat here - the Stateside clubs require a bit of time to approve your membership after application is made and monies are paid. I do not remember the time required by the U.S.c.A., but I know that the G.S.D.C.A.-W.D.A. generally approves membership during the next calendar month after your application is received.

You also seem to be concerned about the hip quality - as are all of us while awaiting results. This is just an idea; as I do not know how long the O.F.A. will allow a radiograph to languish before it is examined. If time is of the essence; contact the O.F.A. to make sure the film is not too old, and then send it to them while you wait to become a member of the S.V., G.S.D.C.A.-W.D.A., or the U.S.c.A.. That way, you will have some results before you "take the plunge" so to speak.

And, it will only cost $35.00 (past twenty-four months of age) for an adult evaluation or $30.00 (less than twenty-four months of age) for a preliminary evaluation. You will spend considerably more than this amount to join either Stateside club, and even more to join the S.V.. The cost for evaluation by the S.V. is higher as well. You can always do that later if you wish.

Good Luck!

Thanks very much for your detailed response Bob-O.

We are a current member of  the U.S.c.A.

The xrays were taken at 18 months of age before the dog was 2 years old so that as I understand it OFA is not an option.
We just got a sch I on him and now we plan to get him thru the breed survey and finally show him in a confirmation show.

The xrays were taken in July of 2008 and at this point if I could avoid taking another set of xrays that would be preferable.

I tried searching the SV site  but couldn't find any info on the age of the xrays before submitting them for the A stamp.

Wow; so you have made a lot of progress with your dog already. That is really good. I looked at the S.V. site as well, and did not quickly see a reference as to the maximum age of radiographs. Six (6) months seems like a reasonable limit - but I do not know.

Try this. Contact Fr. Andrea Mix at HD@schaeferhunde.de and ask her your question. If anyone can give you the correct information; it will be her.

Best Regards,
Bob-O
