The x-ray is of a 6 1/2 month old GSD bitch. I think that the shape of the joints seem fine but am concerned that the right femoral head - left on the x-ray - is luxated. I am not sure whether or not this is due to positioning or the age of the puppy or a potential problem. Is the joint likely to improve & tighten with age or better positioning? All knowledgable comments & help would be appreciated. Thanks.

the positioning is good, the exposure/clarity isn't so good - but from what I can see the hips look ok to me.

if you have access to a pool, swim this puppy every day. the hips will improve. do not over run her, a whole lot can happen in a year and a half.
I had an 8 month puppy that I was told would be mild to mod HD and at 2 years she graded as Good.

If at all possible, keep her lean. I think they look OK for her age, given the x-ray that is my best guess.

It would not go amiss if you gave her Hokamix Joint powder on her morning feed, Specially for strengthening Joints on young Dogs as they grow, i have used it for 5 years now on 4 Puppies giving it from 9 weeks old all Pups had anormal hips but i am counting the current one as well but results not yet in from SV but seem to be good Not a cheap product but excellent

These hips look really nice,I don´t think the right one is luxated - it is due to the age of the puppy, the soft parts are just turning into bones so it might look like that it is luxated on the x-ray.Recently I was at my friend´s - she is a vet and she knows a lot about hips, elbows, correct positioning, age factors and so on.She showed me lots of x-ray of GSDs at different ages - even an x-ray of a 6 weeks old puppy - at that age it is not possible to tell whether the hips are correct or not,you would say it is a disaster when you saw that x-ray without knowing it is just a 6 week old puppy. The x-ray of the same puppy at the age of 7 months was great.

These hips are good.No there is no subluxation of the joint. The empty space that you see is the fovea centralis where Ligamentum teres is attached.Have a good time.
