how much can i get on him
by makgas on 27 December 2005 - 18:12
anywhere from $0 to $2000; i wouldn't pay more for a 5 month old pup, but i would pay less than $0... that is not take the dog, if the dog is good for nothing

You should give more info on the pup. Who cares what his lines are if he is no good. I have seen great lines produce less than desireable pups, and I have seen less popular lines produce some very nice pups. This is one of the reasons why showline pups cost so much people always emphasize the lines, then they think $$$$$. Sell the dog for what he is worth. Would you want someone to sell you a shit dog for $2000 plus just beacuse his pedigree looked good?

good point Vargas; that's what i was trying to convey with my post...
aghabax, just be honest, and sell the dog for what its worth; i've seen breeders sell 8 wks show puppies for $2500; to me that's outrageous, but so be it as long as there are people who buy them.
5 months you can see a lot of what the dog will be: temeperament, nerves, drives...
sell the dog for what it's worth, and forget about lines. I've seen incredible working pedigrees in dogs that are worth for nothing,

$2500 is a steal(joking). I saw one breeder selling one VA sire's puppies at $8000(NOT JOKING)(Now that is a REAL steal, if you know what I mean).

I agree with vargas. Lines don't make dogs; Dogs make the lines.Best Wishes.

SGBH, you're kidding, right?, $8000?? is there a website? i'm interested to see those dogs; who buys those dogs? hollywood people?
my point is, i feel insulted if someone asks me over 2000 for an 8 wk old puppy.

I read somewhere on the internet that an old, well respected GSD breeder of many highly rated dogs, recommends that you buy the worst puppy out of the best bloodlines to start your breeding program with. He stated that you are paying for the bloodlines/genes, and that the worst puppy will have the same genes as the best puppy but cost you less. He also stated that "they" won't sell you their best pup's anyway (of course we all know that money talks). Those stay with them or go to close friends and family. I wish I could remember his name. He is in Germany. Any thoughts on his comments?
