Hello- I now have my first pup with a problem  that even my vet really cant explain well and the cardiologist wants over a 1000.00 to do a scan...
14 week old pup was sold and the  vet said he has a heart arrhythmia. He said not common in puppies and most seen in older dogs.
The cardio vet asked in this was European line dog because they have more heart problems .. SO he said...I payed for a visit to the vet and to have a ECG scan in clinic and then sent to cardio vet for consultation.
He also told them that the pup could just kill over any min from him playing.
Has anyone had this happen?
I am trying to learn and not bash anyone.
I have a contract for replacement for hip or elbow problems and genetic or hereditary problems.
I have offered to give a replacement pup when ever they would like and if he passes before 3 years of age $ 500.00 back.
Does anyone think that is not fair??

I think it is fair.I would get a second opinion though.Usually an ECG tells quite a bit.Did they do an ultrasound? That isn't that expencive if they have the machine there. We had to call this one lady in but still it isn't that much as the scan you are mentioning is.

The dog has been seen by 3 different vets her normal vet then a second opinion and then 3rd by my vet where i paid for the scan and for the cardiologist to see the tape they ran.. Funny thing was that when they fed him treats for 30 secs there was nothing wrong then after he stoped eating it came back on the tape. None of the vets have showed intrest in doing a ultra sound on him. They all said that he needs a EKG scan .

they have not said what kind only that they want to do a scan that cast 8-900.00 of testing to find out and do blood tests for markers. I have not gotten much answer from any one as to what it realy is. The cardio vet said the scan and blood work can tell him how to treat the dog

I would go with the blood work first and see if there is something else that they can do like the ultrasound....or even an xray to see if the heart is enlarged. Those should be done first to rule things out before some big scan. At least that is what we did when I worked at the vet.Blood work, xrays,ECG,ultrasound and if all else fails then the big stuff like scans etc.

Are they thinking hyperthyroid for the blood tests? Meds will work well with converting.
Always,

I had a pup w/a similar issue.  It had a heart arrythmia which was readily apparent when listened to.  It was a while ago so I don't remember the name but it is a genetic issue amongst some Shepherds.  This pup was linebred on Yasko Farbenspiel and my vet said that this defect is rare but most commonly found in Yasko lines.  The prognosis was that the pup could possibly outgrow it at 18 months, if he lived that long he would likely be fine.  However he could also die suddenly without any warning.  The pup was placed with a family who understood his condition & was experienced in dealing with dogs with health problems.  He did die suddenly around 14 mths old.  I don't remember how much the diagnosis was but it was less than $1,000.

Blood test was for genetic markers is what i was told. I took this pup to the vet when he was 6 weeks old they dident find anything wrong with him.. Sold at 13 weeks and when taken to the vet at 14 weeks this is what was found. The line is czech sire and west german working line dam. this  breeding was a 3rd time repeat as the other 2 litters there was nothing wrong with any of them. hips cleared and elbows cleared on all puppies and i have never had a pup with anything wrong. it is not a Yasko line but can happen to any line as i am sure anything can. The line of the pup is a total out cross. I wish it would have been found sooner to prevent the selll of a pup to a buyer but shit happens. No one is perfect. i at a little bit of a loss with this.
I realy dont know what to say or do other than what i have.
I have offered a replacment when ever they are ready for one and if he passes before 3 years old $500.00 cash refund in addition to the replacement pup..
