And how would you suggest he accomplish that?

by George the Retard on 09 February 2010 - 17:02

or better yet maggie ban all people who come here to talk anything but dogs. after all this is a dog forum and not maggies little play house. if we stay on topic which is dogs then others might not feel the need to have multiple user names.

I have never actually understood the proclivity to post under multiple names, nonetheless I am not bothered if people choose to post under different nicknames for whatever reason.  Now if those different personalities start arguing with one another - that might be a cause for concern!

Remember, though, it's maggie's MO to accuse a large number of people of using multiple user names, when the reality is that the people she accuses aren't even doing it.

Keith, it's easy to prevent multiple user names by the db owner or Mod simply checking the originating ISP.  Not saying Oli would want to or should want to do it, but if he did so desire, he could.

YES YES YES!! Simplest and best solution, to report those who violate the TOS.  First offense, a warning.  Second offense, banned for 3 days, third offense, banned for 2 weeks.  Still don't get the message?  Permanent removal.  Doesn't matter who's "side" of views you're on, rules apply to ALL.

I'm familiar with boards that have rules like those above, and it has made the boards terrific discussion places and gotten rid of the trolls.  People certainly disagree and argue, but it's not vile.

That might work if you could guarantee that no two forum members use the same ISP and live close to one another.  Even if he did that, someone could still use a proxy.

There are probably loopholes, sure, but I know the techie people can eliminate the vast majority of the multiple identities if they so desire.  I know some boards will allow alters upon request for a particular thread.  For instance, perhaps someone has an issue to discuss but if they used their regular screen name, everyone would know that (just making up an example) that they're having a genetic issue and maybe they don't want to start rumors about their bloodlines in case it turns out that they're wrong about what's going on.  I've known cases like that where the person asks the Mod if they can create an alter for this particular thread and it's been granted.  But Maggie's stuff about slamdunc is tess is molly is X, is Y, is Z, is whoever she's accusing today .... that's just nuts.

Sorry, Maggs, insisting that people comply by the TOS is not being a control freak.  It's common courtesy.

Very revealing.  "Common courtesy" to the members of this dog board means control freak to you?
