Hi,
Could someone give me a hint on how to lock a pedigree here, please. Would this actually work as a means against any frauds and other "tricks" or not? I am asking 'cause this week I found out that the pedigree of my male was deleted and then re-entered under a different dog name, without any data on Sire and Dam etc.
Here's the pedigree I am talking about, recovered by me http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/638555.html

Any ideas how to prevent such sick tricks in future?
Thanks.

Hi,

I am sorry this happened to you, can't imagine how frustrating that must be! I do not know how to help you sorry, but had wondered if these types of things happen on here. I have been amazed myself that I could have the ability to actually change a dog's pedigree that I do not own? That makes no sense and is a diffinant flaw with this site. I hope you get it figured out and I hope for everyone that they can offer a way to lock all pedigree's to keep the pedigree's true and accuarate.
Best of Luck,
Shelby

I can't believe what some people will do!  I would think that the reason you can't lock a pedigree is because dogs change hands too often and it would be too much work for Oli to keep up with changing the locks from owner to owner.  What I could suggest is that you send Oli a PM.  History of changes are logged, you can see who is changing it.  Once you ascertain who is behind it, you may be able to figure out how to proceed from there.  Good luck.

I thought that if you post it that only you can change it.I too thought there was a mess up with a pedigree of a dog I had and I tried to change it but couldn't.Later I found that it wasn't a mess up. Either way I couldn't change it so there has to be some way to not allow others to mess with what you put up. Good luck and maybe ask Oli.

Don't know why you couldn't make a change LAV, anyone can make changes.  If you go to your dog's pedigree, there's a button "history of changes" and you can see if anyone else has made any.  It will show the screen name.  I'm sure some can use an alias but Oli would know who it is.  I'd try to find out WHY someone would want to mess with your pedigree and make sure they're not stealing it for an unregistered dog.  Don't know exactly how they'd be able to get away with it but you just never know.  Can't be too careful.

Often people make mistakes when entering a pedigree, or are not careful to check and see  whether the dog is already in the database. If the dog's name is difficult to spell, I've seen as many as three or four entries for it, under different spellings! In a case like that, it's a good idea to have a 'change' or 'delete pedigree' function.

Also, many of the pedigrees here are 'historical'. The dog, and quite often even the owner are long dead. If only the owners were allowed to enter information, we wouldn't have much of a database, would we?

Unfortunately, this allows the cheats an practical jokers to have free reign at changing stuff.

Here's an example of a duplicate pedigree: www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/search.html

There are some different dogs with same name but  different registration number. I have fixed it many times and some know it all always changes it back to wrong dog. Namely popular dog Pana z Pohranicni straze and Tom z Pohranicni straze.
I have given up on that. I do not hink that most of these are fraud. I would try to e mail to Oli. He will not answer, most likely, but will take a notice if it is malicious doing ( I would hope). All changes are logged.

Ive kinda wondered something like this. I have a dog that Im placing on a neuter contract and kinda hate to give out the pedigree info since Im not placing him with papers. I had thought that the person could just go and copy down all the info and obtain papers on him and breed him. Ill most likely just neuter the dog myself so this WONT happen. Its sad that you cant even place a dog anymore without wondering if someone is going to cheat and do something like this.

MIMMO is logged as making a change on  jan. 30th.

It happens.

Something could be done with a little programming in my opinion, password protection.

Oh well.

Yeah, but then you can't update your pedigree to reflect, say, the new titles of its parents. Half the dogs in my dogs' pedigree don't belong to me, but I put the data in. Not everyone CARES if their dogs are here, or if the info is current.
