The local News paper reports her fines amount to $1523.00 plus court costs. The article will be available online tomorrow.

A dog groomer convicted on animal cruelty charges for accidentally killing two German shepherds has been sentenced to one year probation and $1523.00 in fine and court costs. Jennifer Rainey, 26 of Madison Heights, Michigan will have the criminal charges erased from her record if she successfully completes probation, according to the sentencing guidelines in 38th District Court in Eastpointe.
Rainey left her dogs in a hot vehicle in August while she took another dog into an Eastpointe animal clinic to show co-workers that the animal has been certified as a therapy dog. When she returned the two dogs were deceased from the heat.
Rainey who initially claimed a stranger closed the window on her truck, entered a guilty plea Nov. 24th.
"this was an isolated incident and a poor decision in the life of someone who loves and cares for her dogs," said Troy based defense attorney Robert Harrington.

WOW! And she plead guilty, after all that was said and done. Let's hope she (and others) have learned from her mistakes.

I don't understand people!! It isn't like this has been the first person to do this...you would think that people would hear about it and learn from other peoples screw ups.Like the K-9 officer in Chandler AZ that "forgot" his K-9 in the car in the 100+ deg heat and it died. DUH!!! How the hell can you forget your partner? I just don't get it.

Given that she is a Dog groomer and claims to be a trainer, she should have known better. No excuse for what she did.

Beetree,
Where did you read that she pled guilty? I am not saying you are wrong, just that I must have missed it, because I don't see that.
Her record will be CLEAR, as if it never happened, if she completes probation.

LAVK-9 I'm not saying it is right or a excuse but the police officer's son I believe was in a accident,
and that is why he said he forgot the dog.
and that is why he said he forgot the dog.

Wow! 1500+/- for two shepherds????? Since this is a fine, the owner probably won't see a penny of it.
Time for a civil lawsuit to the max the state allows. This is really not enough punishment.
I know that money cannot replace the loss of the dogs, but, it is the only remedy available.

Read the story again, Pharaoh - the groomer WAS the owner of the deceased dogs.

I believe she owned one of the dogs and the other was a pup that she bred but was owned by someone else. I could be wrong though.
