I have read on this message board several people rec. tear mender for gluing up ears... can someone please tell me the proper way to use this.  i just purchased a bottle and tried and it is not working .. form came loose at the base of the ear almost immediately.  we used it as directed on the bottle and held it for 3 minutes.  the form that i am using is foam pipe insulation which as a rule works great on larger ears...but i do not know if it works with tear mender.  i have been using the 3M weatherstrip adhesive which worked ok for a couple of days.  any help would be greatly appreciated.

I you are suppose to glue the ears to each other without the foam.

Bora,

Apply a thin strip of Tear Mender to the outer edges of each ear and press together. Hold together for several seconds
to allow the glue to set. The ears should look like a cone over the dogs head. DO NOT apply the glue all the way to the tips
of the ears. The glue does not bond to the various materials usually used to brace ears. It will not bond to the skin. It bonds very well to the fur. Do not allow your dog to play unsupervised with other dogs while the ears are glued. If the ears are pulled apart it can pull the fur, with skin, off. Leave the ears bonded as long as possible. It can be removed with "Goo Gone" or "DiSolve It " , these products can be found at Wal-Mart. When the glue eventually weakens and the ears are standing on their own they maybe overset. They should relax with time and stand in a natural set. If they still do not stand you will have to wait for the fur to grow back on the edges of the ear and reglue. Keep the Tear Mender in your refrigerator and it will last a long time.

A product called "Skin Bond" is good for gluing various braces inside of the ears. It will hold the mole skin and mole foam pads in the ears. It bonds to skin. You can find this product at Medical Supply businesses.

I think using the Tear Mender is lot less work. Good luck.<g>

I have used Tear Mender for years.  See my post at the end of the following thread with pictures of the puppy I just used it on.

Good luck and I hope this helps.  I learned this method from an experienced AKC show breeder.

I use a very thin layer on the ear, allow it to get slightly tacky, then apply a second thin layer to the form, then apply the form to the ear. Works great. If it came loose you likely used too much.

I do thank you all for your responses...it really helps to know how to properly use something rather than just assume you use it like everything else...esp. when it comes to my dogs.
