Hello,

I am wondering if anyone knows of any good German Shepherd magazines, that are not nessisarily focused around the training of them, or sports, but about health, genetics, etc?

I have plenty of subscriptions to item catalogs, like Ray Allen, and others, so I am specifically looking for mags that are specifically about GSDs or primarily about GSDs.

Workinglines, prefered.

Thanks,

You know I don;t want to discourage you but he most of the English magazines on GSD coming out of US and Britain are crap. The content is very bad quality. Schutzhund USA has improved to a slight degree in the quality of articles. I'm trying to pick up German and trying to read German magazines. When it comes to Working lines especially there is a big gaping void in the decent content world. Its all Show Show and more shows:(

I would agree with Vikram on this issue, but also state that the United Schutzhund Clubs of America magazine is MUCH improved over several years ago. I don't always agree with the stance someone takes, and some articles are less than fact based, but they try really hard, the editing is much better and the topics are often of interest. One has to be a member of the organization. I no longer am and threw out all my magazines, but there are people here and on other forums who sometimes are happy to give them away or sell them cheaply. There are a number of good books on canine behavior and training, but the really good ones are very expensive. I have a three volume set that I highly recommend to anyone who really wants to know about canines, in general. I cost almost $300 several years ago.

 hodie,

do you care to share your list of precious 3 books please?

regards

Hi Vikram,

The three volume set I wrote about is called "Handbook of Applied Dog Behavior and Training" by Steven Lindsay. Again, three volumes, each around $80 or so I thing. Not easy reading, but well researched and documented. I highly recommend it to serious dog enthusiasts. There are others too if you get past this one or wish me to make a list for you. I have a great library.

me too. I have the ones you are talking about. They are great volumes.

DDRCzechFan, do you speak German?

If yes, here is the magazine for you: http://www.dsh-spezial.de/start.htm

If not, just look at the pictures, he, he - in "Alte Ausgaben" (older issues), they also have excerpts from each of the older magazines contents, so you can have an idea what you ae getting.

Adi Ibrahimbegovic,

Thank you, but no, I do not speak nor read German fluently enough to be proficient.

I do read and speak some, but it is very limited.

Thanks anyway!
