Last week-end we ended our herding season with a dog fiesta and we took some pictures.  My two girls Britany(3.5 years) and Dini (8 years) enjoyed every minutes of it and we are very sorry that the season had to end for winter..can't wait t'ill next year!!

Just wanted to share the pictures..i've tried to load them on this site but the server didn't take them so they are on my gallery..

Also..people with MAC are going to be able to watch a little video I made a the HGH trial this year..I would prefer to do HGH but it is not available around here.  It is much easier to teach a GSD the tending style since it is their natural ways of herding stocks.  Playing border collie is not always easy LOL..you have to inhibit their natural ways to keep them behind those
sheeps..

Two Different styles but both very enjoyable....Just love to watch them working and loving it!!

Have a good day everyone..

Julie

P.S: Who said show dogs couldn't run  :)) ???

If you want to do tending (where the gsd excels) and HGH training is unavailable, you might see about AKC's "C" course or AHBA's Ranch Large Flock (RLF).  These courses are more readily available, since they don't require as high a livestock head-count to engage in a simulation of the same style work.

This was so nice to see.  Thanks for sharing these!

There are a few trials here in Ohio that I have yet to go to, anyone been to them?

We purchased Tunis sheep early this summer to start puppies on.  It has been sooooo much fun.  Amazing how these little guys take to being around the sheep.  Well, most of them.

I will look forward to seeing more herding pictures.  Thanks again for sharing.

I know about the course C but we have NO instructor who does it around here.  But since we have more GSD coming to lessons we will probably have it happen in a year or two..My coach (even tought she is a border collie girl) was pretty impress by the HGH trial and how the dogs work the sheep. She have heard about it but never saw it done before..really liked the video.. makes her understand a little more how GSD work the stock naturally so we can ajust the training method..

I like all style and seing all kinds of dog working the sheep as been very fun for everybody..another breed..another way..it's just amazing!

What area are you located?  C course is gaining popularity fast,

"There are a few trials here in Ohio that I have yet to go to, anyone been to them?"

Kind of sounds like a trick question ;-)
