Hey guys

I have asked for the opinion of this x-ray from a member here who also suggested I post it and hopefully get opinions from some of the experienced people here.
I value any comments you can share and thank you for taking the time!

24 month old male

Positioning is pretty good.  For 24 months I would like to see the joints tighter, they have a bit too much laxity in the sockets for me to say "looks great" at 2 years old - but I still think they will pass OFA.

I think they look pretty good.

The quality of the x ray is very bad. I would not send this to OFA! The hip on the left is good, but the  one on the right is not as good. It is hard to say what would show on better quality negative.  Dog should have no problems in the life though. Re xray the dog with vet who chnges his development media/fluids more often! Mabe then we will be able to read it better..

I,d find a vet with a digital xray unit, You should pass OFA I,d think with a fair or good you never know with OFA.

Thank you very much everyone for your replies!

I figured I would have to get them redone if I want to send to OFA. Although this is the first time I've had a dog x-rayed and don't have any knowledge about the subject at all, I wasn't very satisfied with my vet. They sceduled it in a 15 min appointment, took this x-ray and while he was out when they tried to take a second and get a better one he was moving so it didnt turn out and that was it.

she sent this to me via email last night.  i told her that it looked as though everything was properly formed but that the positioning and quality of the xray was poor.  the knees appear to be pointed outward a bit too much and i was not sure but it almost looked as though they were pulling down on the legs more than rotating inward.  glad she submitted this to the group for further comment.  i think better positioning and better quality xray would ensure an ofa rating.

be sure to get back with us on the re-xray and the results.  its nice to hear what ofa says whether we agree or disagree.

In this radiograph the knees are rotated slightly "outwards" and that alone can cause the joint to appear to have excessive laxity; especially if the dog is heavily sedated and has not been active prior to the radiographic examination. The alignment of the tibias with the pelvic "horns" appears to be fine.

The knees should be rotated "inwards" for the radiograph that is sent for scoring.  If this radiograph is taken properly I think this dog will easily pass with O.F.A. "good" or S.V. "a" Normal. O.F.A. might still pass these as "good" but I would prefer to send the type of image they prefer.

Good Luck,
Bob-O

Yikes, SportGSD, they knocked the dog out? My vet always gets great xray positioning with the dog wide awake...is it COMMON to knock them out?
