Would you breed a dog with Fair-rated hips?  Just curious...

And I found a little table a couple months ago on the OFA website(I swear it was on there) that showed what their ratings were equal to on other tests, but now I can't find it.  Anyone seen it?

Thanks,
Haley

Here is the chart from the backside of my OFA Excellent girl's OFA certificate. I had to darken it up so you can see it.
Hope it helps

I don't always agree with OFA, so I would want to see the hip x-rays myself before saying yes or no. If they are obviously a Fair than no.

it would depend on the rest of the pedigree, and the ratings of her siblings and close ancestors.

if she was a fair,  but out of a pedigree with many OFA goods, or "a" normals or low ZW #s then yes I would breed her.

if she was fair,  and the entire pedigree was nothing but fair's or "a2" or "a3" and high zw #'s then I would probably pass.  she would have to really be something for me to consider her with this type of hip status

I am also leaning more towards using BVA and PennHip method more than I am OFA nowadays.

I would have to agree with Uber Land what does her pedigree look like? Not only what is on the pedigree but also what the siblings, aunts and uncles are producing.

It would also depend on what she brings to the table in all the rest of the puzzle. Looking at it from a whole.

IF, at that point she was only weak in that area (but great temperment, drives, structures and the rest of the health) then I would have to make sure the male and his back lines are very strong but also that he is a producer of good hips plus everything else.

No dog is perfect they all have flaws.
