Help needed, my girl has cracked paw pads.

She is a real drama queen and puts on a great act.

I have been resting her for the past 4 days and applying Paw Paw ointment and they are improving, the ground here is quite rough and it has happened before and it will happen again. My other dogs are fine, they obviously have tougher feet.

I would like to hear from others as to what they use for this problem. I don't want make her wear boots but it may come to that.

The above appears to be a good product.  If you want something until you purchase it, use vaseline and an old pair of socks.  An overnight of that and it should soften the paws.  You may want to try Neosporine (?) in place of the vaseline.  Another great product is Udder Cream.  Putting an old pair of socks on will keep her from licking as well as keeping air out which will allow it to heal much faster.
If she won't leave the socks alone, put on an Elizabethan (?) Collar.

don;t mind me telling you that bad foot and cracks are a genetic fault.

I know a lot of people will laugh but this is true. Keep this in mind when you go for your next pup

Thanks,  Why didn't I think of Udder cream?

As for being genetic, 4 of my dogs are all from the same Dam and she is the only one with soft feet, I am also still in touch with most of my puppy buyers and no problems there either, so I am not too sure about that one........... If someone has proof I would be willing to listen though.

Musher's Secret is an excellent product. My dog sliced a piece of her pad off. I applied to her pad and within a few days she was no longer limping. Also helps with cracked pads and to prevent cracks.

if out of 5 siblings in a family one has green eyes would you call it genetic or not? Not necessary that all 5 brother sisters have green eyes....

cheers

If the cracking isn't too serious good 'ol vaseline is as good as anything. Apply liberally when the dog is gonna be resting, say just before sleep and let it soak in.
