I just ran across this site, and it looks great!  www.petproducts24-7.com.  It seems to have great canned dog food (I am going to order some for my pregnant female).  They also have all kinds of bones and such.  I just wanted to get your opinions on it before I order.

Any input?

thank you!

Looks like a pretty good deal except I can't find how big the cans are. If you buy it let us know what you think.

Edited to ad:

I emailed them and they emailed back pretty quick, cans are 13 oz. for beef, chicken or turkey. I didn't ask about their stews.

Hey Rowdy,

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see what the percentages are on this dog food.  You may want to email them and ask them about the protein and carbs before ordering.  May be too rich for your pregnant girl.  I don't know that I would change her diet, maybe supplement it but now might not be the best time to change things up on her.

Good luck,
Deb

Here are the percentages, Debi:  http://www.caninecattle.com/  (click the canned dog food link).  None of the protein exceeds 10%.  The only reason I would be giving her some of this, is because right now all she gets is dry, and she isn't eating very well right now.  I'm guessing "morning sickness", but I want to make sure she is eating a little.  I won't be switching her normal food, just adding a little to it.  Last night I put a little wet in her dry, and she ate most of it.

thanks for the input!  What do you think about the percentages?

Sounds like a great deal but I'm concerned why the buy one get one free for so cheap...
Are they coming up on a expiration date?
Just a thought.

Did you check for nitrites and nitrates in a canned product.?????.

Yes it is good to add to a preg bitch's food....MY vet told me many years ago....add puppy canned food with folic and with Choline in it.....extra is needed during this time...never switch food but what you are doing is excellent...of course I add lots of raw liver and bones....cottage cheese and yogurt as you want balamce when feeding raw meat   of Potass and Calcium...NEver give calcium pills....real food instead...

Rowdy,

Sounds good, just a question...do you wet her dry food normally?  Just the way you worded it made me think that you don't.  If you don't, please start adding water to it and letting it set for just a few minutes.  This could be a part of why she isn't eating much.  If you are feeding her dry and she drinks water, it swells in her tummy and being pregnant, I'm sure it would be very uncomfortable.  You would want to do this always to help avoid bloat anyway.  Are you feeding her twice a day or just once?  I would suggest two smaller meals always, again to help avoid bloat and it will help her now.  If you already do this on a regular basis....then nevermind.  It could just be the heat.  My girl lost her appetite once it got warm.  She went from 2 cups twice a day down to just 1 cup twice a day and is back to being an eager eater.  I feed her dry kibble that I wet with an equal amount of water with a tablespoon of vegetable oil twice a day.  She also gets peanut butter stuffed in a kong once a day.  But she isn't pregnant.  Just a growing girl.  Just some thoughts that crossed my little pea brain!  Hope your girl's appetite picks up.

Good luck,
Deb

Hi Deb!

Very good questions!  Yes, right now she gets two meals a day with a little water.  I don't USUALLY give her wet food, but do on occasion just as a treat.  I'm thinking I might go to 3 smaller meals a day, just while she is preggo.  She used to eat about 1 1/2 cups twice a day, but now, I would guess she's only taking about half that.  Next Friday is her ultrasound appointment to check for heartbeats, so I'll ask the vet what they think.

I definitely know a lot about bloat.  Before I became a stay at home mom a year ago, I worked at an Emergency Vet for 8 years, and MAN, we did a LOT of surgeries.  I'm very careful about my pups.  I also have a Queensland Heeler that has Cystinuria, so I have to be VERY careful about him and what he eats (gets the occasional treat, but mainly is just Hill's U/D...which I HATE, but they haven't found any other food that helps with this genetic disorder).

Ah, sorry, got off topic there.  Anyway, as long as my vet gives me the OK, I will just be giving her a couple of tablespoons of wet each meal.  She seems to really enjoy that.

Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on it.  Three meals a day wouldn't hurt her, just be a pain in your behind but if it helps, I'd be doing it.  Man, 3/4 cup of food really doesn't sound like much does it?  I think I would be slipping that canned stuff to her too if only while she is pregnant.  I would imagine it won't be long, when she is nursing and she will be ravenous!  Let us know what you find out next Friday with the Ultrasound.   Inquiring minds want to know!

Deb
