Yes, I think pet owners who are responsible should spay and neuter their pets. But mandating all dogs (and cats) in one state could lead to all states following their example. As a professional breeder we encourage our pet owners to spay and neuter toward the prevention of unwanted puppies. But if ALL dogs and cats are to be spayed and neutered where are families to go for a well bred and pure bred family companion? Other states and then eventually other countries - talk about outsourcing! Not to mention those of us breeders who are serious about our chosen breed - who's dedication and love for that breed has become to a full time job - 24 hours a day/7 days a week, our lively hood is threatened. And what about those industries breeders help support, the local Vet, the feed mills and pet supply stores, the local farmer (perhaps for bedding), the lumber mills, etc. whom us breeders buy supplies and services from. In our small rural area we spend thousands to take care of our dogs and puppies. Mandated spay and neuter laws effect a lot more than a reduction of stray and unwanted animals - there must be a better way.

If S/N is made mandantory how much you wanna bet, the bill for that doubles at your local vets office? The vet will be looking to cash in seeing that his livelyhood will be gone within a decade.

I don't like to see stray or abandoned dogs/cats any more than the next guy but making a law is not how you get it to stop. Those who don't follow the laws are the ones with their animals running lose, no tags, no shots breeding every heat cycle. They wont stop, those dogs don't have a collar, chip or tag to identify them and if Johnny Law comes to question them about their tramp dog, they will just deny it is theirs. It's us, the people who do the right thing, that will suffer.

I have a 4 month old pup I hope is breeding quality but I wont know untl he is almost 3. I refuse to neuter him before I'm sure and I refuse to spy/neuter any dog under adult age. I lost a dog to osteosarcoma a cancer in the long bones, now showing to be a factor in early neutering. He was a dog I got out of the pound at 9-11 months old near death and he had to be neutered of course being a rescue. I would have liked to have the choise to wait another year for him to fill out with his testostarone.

I'd like to see a mandantory test you have to pass to own a pet, before I see this bill go through. Shit I'm down for tests before people are allowed to have children. If the Govt is going to step in, they need to stop stupid before they punish us ALL. Right now he way laws are, the idiots go on being idiots and the rest of us get the shaft.

How are they going to enforce this law?

Well I signed the petition and I am in WI. I also forwarded the link for the petition to everyone I know and asked that they do the same! This bill makes me sick to my stomach, and what's worse is that people by into the BS that these organizations are dishing out! They won't stop at just cats and dogs, they will not be happy until all species of domesticated animals are erradicated!
