Just a mention to Mackenzie regarding placings,
I have been exhibiting for many years and had some nice placing and wins ect: but i think if i did not go to a show because i felt i may not be placed i would not have had some wins that i had with my dogs, not because i though she was not very good but because she was in the same class as the more well known breeders. also and more important i go to show because i still enjoy it even when i don't win or place.
i was at the show mentioned i took my new pup knowing she would not win, but to get experience.

"There was a discussion, at some length, with the stewards, both Champ. Show judges, before the results of the class were given. I can only assume that the way that the results were given was approved by the stewards"

5.23 The eligibility of dogs entered in any class is not the concern of the
judge or steward. Any queries should be referred to the Show
Secretary/Management.

So why were they discussing the dogs eligibility?? She clearly was eligible for the class under KC regs and therefore eligible for the first place!!

Although aimed primarily at the exhibitor, there is a rule which says 'Nothing may be carried, worn or displayed by a handler or a dog in the ring which is capable of indicating the identity of the exhibit, owner or company which might be sponsoring that handler or dog.  Nor must anything be said or any action be taken which identifies the exhibit other than by exhibit number'.  As spectators have access to catalogues, one can only assume this means identify the exhibit/ehxibitor to the judge.

I would also like to see a rule that at Champ shows the exhibitors are given there ring numbers/vests with their catalogues or no one is to enter the ring without there number on e.g. a holding ring at the entrance to the rings.as As there other things that go on like the owner of an exhibit enters the ring with his/her animal and then proceeds to linger about near the judge and makes sure that the judges sees the number or the handler for the said animal.

No  need, the handler just lets the dog slip its lead and run back to the owner, then the judge knows exactly who the owner is!

MissZara, I think you know the answer to that question as well as me!

I'm done with this now, my final (I hope) word on this is, that it was wrong, wrong, wrong all the way... what a shitty thing to inflict on people who'd paid good money for what they hoped was a fair crack of the whip.  When the judge wasn't even corrected when he told the ringside (translated by the steward, after much discussion & catalogue searching) that she was the best bitch at the show but she couldn't have first place because no Sch & no Kk... it spoke volumes, it still does.

Should this club be allowed to get away with it?  NO, but which of us wants to bring the Shepherd and all the decent people in the breed into further disrepute by contacting the KC?

I hope the committee take a long hard look at who's calling the shots and make the very necessary adjustments!

There was no question about eligibility for the class. The original question was should the result of the class depend on the Korklasse standing of a dog. The judges choice for the best bitch in the open bitch class was placed second because it was not Kk1. The second best bitch was promoted to first because it was Kk1. This was explained in detail by the judge with the stewards present.

Exactly right... the judge should NOT be allowed to see a catalogue!

Apparently the above was applied correctly... for Open dog, mmmmm why would that be... same judge, same steward, no obvious reason?

So... what IS the GSD Club of Wales committee going to do about this fiasco? So many rules broken and so many p****d off exhibitors!  Do they care enough to make amends and apologise?

Sorry. I said I was done but I only really picked up these two posts properly when I was having a re-read.

Having read this thread and heard the opinions of a few people who were at the show I find things rather confusing.First of all we have what should be an experienced committee, then we have, what I would have thought an experienced Judge, but for some reason there seems to have been a communication problem between the two!! In this country almost anyone who owns a German Shepherd can judge a German Shepherd yet a number of people including the elected judge for this Breed Open Show forgets the simple basics of judging.......JUDGE THE DOGS!!! Not the pedigrees, not the working qualifications,JUST THE DOGS.It is that simple. Why do committees find it difficult to get that simple message over to visiting foreign judges.
